Monday 8th February
In the morning I got up and went for a wander around the grounds. It was beautiful to be away from the town and see fields of green all around. The hostel rooms were wooden type huts named after different countries, we were staying in Sweden. They had a horse on site and an adorable friendly old dog, whom of which we were told has been a bit depressed recently as their other dog had passed away and she was missing her companion. There was also a log area where people would sit around a fire in the winter, I found a Buddhist shrine around the back which made me smile thinking about my time in Asia, and a huge lake down the front you could go out kayaking on.
Lisa woke up and joined me at the swimming pool relaxing. The pool could have been a little cleaner there were all kinds of creatures in there, but I didn't really mind and just dipped in and out. Later we decided to get the shuttle bus into the town and wanted to go to a point Lisa had read about to watch the sunset, however when we arrived at the beach we were informed it was a 7km walk so decided against it.
We then met a nice man Harry who was walking his dog who offered to drive us to the top part of the town where you could get a good view of the sunset and drop us back at the tavern where we'd planned to have dinner. Lisa being Lisa was very hesitant and unsure to trust him and declined his offer, but he explained he understood and had a daughter our age who had been off travelling and had done a lot himself so knows to be aware of trusting strangers but said he was being genuine in not wanting us to miss a lovely view of seventeen seventy. I talked Lisa around and said come on its fine, I know it's not sensible to get in cars with strangers but the lifeguard had walked past and greeted Harry (and his dog Buster) whilst he was stood chatting to us so my gut told me he was just a genuine nice bloke wanting us to see his town. I got in the front and Lisa got in the back, Buster sat in the middle excitably looking out the front window. He drove us up to a lookout point where we got out and took pictures and then showed us the harbour and also some wild kangaroos. We learnt a bit about him and his travels, of which he said he's finding harder to find people to go with now he's older and all his friends are finding partners. We learnt some about his daughters travels too who he was picking up the following day in Brisbane and it was nice to just have someone who cared to give half an hour of his time for us travellers passing through his town.
After Harry dropped us back to the Tavern, Lisa and I were delighted to be able to order Camembert on the menu, and had a couple of drinks whilst we played pool. We got the shuttle bus back around 9 and had showers then chatted to a girl in our room before bed. I really had loved how green and rural the hostel felt and it made me feel at peace again for the first time in a while.
