Backpack with Kerry & Nat
We spent seven days sailing the Yasawa and the Mamanuca Fijian Islands. It was amazing we were provided with all our meals which made us FAT!!!!! (even though they were some of the dodgiest concoctions!!) We found some amazing snorkelling spots saw more than you would scuba diving-we were brave enough to swim over a leapord shark which mant we had to swim over "the ledge" (like nemo) this is where the water dropped to about 10 feet from about 3 feet. We also saw sea snakes and puffer fish. We hired a Kayka (very amusing) and a dolphin swam alongside us!!
We visited the 'blue lagoon' where the film was set and did some wicked snorkelling there. We went to a local village on the Sunday and went to their church service, it was amazing we both cried as it was soooo overwhelming. The whole village were singing and dancing and shouting 'praise the lord'. It was like you see in the movies, everyone so happy!!!
We were welcomed with music and singing from the staff on every resort and also had to join in with their traditional dances in the evenings.
We met a lovely group of people and played many silly drinking games and then lots of cava was consumed with the locals needless to say we felt rough the next day!!
Our last Island was Bounty Island home of 'celebrity love Island' upsuprisingly the first place we went to see was the set. It was mad how small the set actually was, we went into the love shack and were very suprised to see 10 Fijian men in their pants living in there (i think they were just as suprised to see us!!!). The Island is tiny and we walked around it in 15 minutes, there is only one resort which is where we stayed. We found out that ITV payed $8000 a day to hire the Island during filming!!
We returned to the mainland and flew out to Auckland the next day. Fiji was amazing and we were very sad to leave, the people were lovely and the Islands were paradise (we'll just avoid the cava next time!!!!!)
