This morning we paid £8 each for an all day bus ticket and caught a shuttle bus into town. We firstly went to George Square which seems to be Games Central for The Glasgow 2014 Commonwealth Games which start this week. We bought some souvenirs at the Games Superstore and watched some people being interviewed by the BBC.
We walked on a couple of streets and stumbled upon Buchanan Street which is quite a nice pedestrian mall. We found some BBC cameras setting up and worked out that the Queen's Baton was coming down the street soon, so we watched that with a small crowd of Glaswegians.
There were a few athletes strolling around too, including some Australians. We found a big shopping centre called St Enochs where we did some shopping and had lunch. Then we found a bus which took us out to the Games Stadiums.
On the way, the bus was held up at an intersection while the Queen's Baton passed again! We got off the bus and walked down to Celtic Park and Emirates Arena where the opening ceremony will be. What did we run into again?...yes the Baton Relay!
Back in town, we had a little walk around, bought a snack at a Pret a Manger and caught the shuttle back to the hotel / airport.
We watched some more athletes, including Australians, arriving at the airport, to be welcomed by bagpipes and dancing girls. Chelsea left on an Emirates at 9:30pm. Gail and I found an external viewing spot outside the airport fence and filmed the plane taking off before retiring to the hotel.
