On Thursday (28 June) we took a tour of the United Nations Headquarters. We were able to walk through a sitting of the General Assembly but couldn't take photos in there, unfortunately. Today, we started with a walk from our hotel to the west gate of Central Park. We continued on and found the famous statue Angel of the Waters, and many beautiful scenes of the lake, bridges and dense greenery. Afterwards, we visited the Museum of Natural History which blew me away with the quality of the exhibits. In the afternoon, we made very quick visits to the Guggenheim Museum and the Museum of Modern Art, just to say we’d been there.

Today we purchased tickets to visit the 911 Memorial for a 10am booking. The ticket office was a couple of blocks away from Ground Zero and was a little tricky to find. The memorial consists of two enormous pools surrounded by cascading water and the engraved names of all the victims. The pools are on the exact footprints of the twin towers. Today we woke up to a rainy morning but we decided to catch a yellow taxi to Pier 78 to take a sightseeing cruise which was included as part of our CitySights tickets. Today , we walked down to 72nd Street Station and bought Metro Cards. $30 for unlimited rides for a week! Then we took the Subway...only one stop to Times Square where we picked up Explorer Passes and bought CitySights tickets. We toured the sights around Manhattan on top of a CitySights bus and visited the observation deck at the Empire State Building
