Tuesday July 28th Hong Kong.
Morning trip to Kowloon Peninsula and New Territories.
8.00 am till 1.00 pm
Took some time moving around central hotels picking up passengers. In the course of this, went along very busy Kowloon Streets.
Saw flats provided by State. Early ones measured in size and more recent ones.
Then the trip to the frontier passing from one industrial settlement to another but seeing some farms. Vegetable fish and ducks, water hyacinths grown for pig food. Saw one water buffalo knee deep in water eating plants. The trip home different and through a new long tunnel.
Saw boats going to Macau.
Yesterday 2 inches of rain a washouts which blocked one of the excursions.
New road building- much of it handmade but also very mechanised.
Afternoon trip of the Hong Kong Island 2.00 pm - 6.00 pm
A long through the tunnel (2km) and then downtown Hong Kong.
Then trip to Victoria Heights visiting Tiger Balm gardens.
On the way came home via Aberdeen, where we had a short trip in a Sampan.
Water dirty with rubbish on it. Saw one man swimming!!!
Some junks falling to bits. Water restaurants very solid and attractive.
Bought raw silk shirt in Cameron Street. After wonderful Chinese meal in Hotel did a bit more shopping.
Mixed vegetable, asparagus and chicken, Peking Duck in lemon. Chicken and Mushroom.
Great Wall white wine, China tea, egg drop soup.
Wednesday 29th July Hong Kong to Auckland
Fine sunny & hot.
Stayed in air conditioned room until check out at 12.00 noon.
Then walked along to the space centre.
This a domed centre with three theatres or exhibitions but no general viewing.
So went to the China art and craft centre where all kinds of Chinese craftsmanship on display.
It has all come from mainland China.
walked back to hotel for a cup of tea and sandwich and sat about in reception for the rest of the day waiting for limousine service to airport.
And so ends the story.
