Went to an American/German wedding today. Very different from at home. It didn't start until 17.00, we had to drive an hour and a half to the ceremony, which lasted about 20 minutes, then drive an hour and a half back to downtown Greenville for the reception. The chapel was beautiful though, right on top of a mountain and completely open at the back so the congregation sits looking out at the view, very dramatic.
The reception was held at The Lazy Goat a bar/restaurant. The room was set up as it would be at home with round tables and a dance floor and waitresses bring round appetisers whilst you wait for the bride and groom. However, once the couple got there they went straight to the dance floor and did the first dance. They then do a very informal speech together and open the buffet.
After the food there was a slideshow of photos of them and then pretty much everyone there got up to do short speeches, at one point I was starting to plan what I'd say myself!
At about 21.30 we left to go back and pack the car and then begin the 3 hour journey to the beach. Finally arrived at 1.45, house is lovely but too dark to see anything outside, still very hot.
