I am so happy to say that my opinion has changed for the better, the first places we stopped in Vietnam were cities and I think the city folk are just a bit aggressive and different, we are now in Hoi An and I have fallen in love with the place, it is what I imagined Vietnam to be like and I think its such a sweet little town, yes the Vietnamese can get really annoying but that is just to be expected. The old town is so cute with old style houses and sweet little restaurants, no cars or motorbikes are allowed so it's a very pleasant place to be. Every second shop is a Taylor's so if you want to come and buy a cheap wardrobe of stuff here is the place, if I had money and was not backpacking I would buy so many things as they are so nice, and they are all made to measure, I went into the one shop and she had a 'Next' book and said I can pick anything in the book and she will make it or me. But there is so much competition and it does get a little annoying when we are always getting asked to buy their clothes for 'special price'. The first day we were here, a little woman took me into her little shop sat me on a tiny kids chair, lifted my leg up and proceeded to pull the hairs out my leg with some cotton, it was so sore and she said 'I can do whole leg cheap, cheap'. I got such a fright because I had no idea what she was doing.
We have been here for three days so far and have really enjoyed being out of the city, we are staying close to the old town near the lake, but there is a really stunning beach about 3km out of town. Its so hot here, close to 40 degrees, the more north we go the hotter its seems to be getting and I tell you that as soon as we walk outside our clothes are wet from sweat and we look all shiny mmmm yum! Yesterday we hired a bike and went for a ride around the town, we managed to find a little pottery making place and before we went we thought it would be a huge factory type place with loads of pottery machines but surprisingly and much more welcoming was a small little house with a family making pottery with a piece of wood that one woman kicked to turn, we each made a pot type thing with help of course, and it was so fun, none of them could speak English so there was allot of giggling going on but it was great, we did not pay to sit with them but ended up buying a miniature tea set that is so dinky and some funny clay animal whistles which we have no need for but we felt like we should buy something and a massive clay pot was just not an option.. We then went to the beach and it was amazing, the sand was silky soft and the water was so nice, much nicer than any other beach here in Vietnam…its such a pity that we cant stay here for longer but we have to move on. Also the litter that was in Nah Trang is just not seen here, they take more pride in these little towns.
Today we went on a boat ride on the river, and instead of paying a tourist company and sitting in a big boat with other people we went with a little wooden boat, it was very sweet and relaxing, and we felt a little bad as two woman we rowing us but I guess that's their income. When we got back I heard a dog crying on the other side of the river on the bank and there were loads of boats just passing it and ignoring it so we had to walk all the way down the river to the bridge and then back along the other side, having to pass some very massive water buffalo and then walk along the river bank to save the dog, I mean anyone would do it right, and shame its chain had got stuck under some rocks and it was trapped, so we freed him, we were a bit scared it was going to bite us but he was so happy to see us that he was waggling his whole body at us. I think it went down to drink some water and got stuck. So that was our one good deed of the day, but of course I did not go away injury free, as I was attacked by some tree branches and I now am the proud owner of some lovely red scratches all over my legs.
For the first time in our travels we have a hotel with a pool and its amazing, a bit expensive but well worth it as its so bloody hot, it's a tiny indoor pool but after a long day in the sun its so nice to chill out in it, also a nice welcome as sea water can get a bit annoying. Oh ya I forgot to tell you about the 13 hour bus journey, it was absolutely awful, and I have now got a cold, but the driver drove like a maniac (what's new) and it was hard to sleep but my bum landed nicely in the butter that night as I got the bed that was above the stairs so it was like six foot long, where as the rest were five foot long and your legs had to be slightly bent and you had to sleep upright too, and I am so sure everyone was giving me evil eyes, but I did not care as it was great hahaha. Darren just kept on looking at me in absolute shock because I am sure he was wishing that he was first on the bus to choose between the two seats haha, but poor me ok I do still have a sore bum!
We are leaving for our next stop tomorrow which is another six hours on a bus….I have nothing to say about this but, 'not again'!!!!
Anyway love and miss you all xxx
