Yay we have just come off our last 13 hour night bus journey, it was crazy, the driver was a nutter again and every time he swerved it was as if the bus grew legs and did the bloody tango, a few times I actually prayed to the stars because I honestly thought I would find myself flying through the window, especially being on the second bunk. The driver stopped once for dinner at a very local restaurant, the chairs were kids chairs they were tiny, anyway I was hungry so I bought rice and chicken, I ate a few mouthfuls of rice with long teeth, but I just could not do it, the chicken looked like it was a million years old and it was a weird grey colour, gross, but even more gross was the guy sitting behind me, he had the same meal that I had and he was spitting the chicken bones on the floor between his legs, we could not believe it, some of these people are truly animals Hahaha. Then before we were about to leave I ran to the loo, which again was so disgusting but they were washing the dishes outside the toilet in a big bucket of water that people washed their hands in after using the toilet. Can you imagine it. We did not sleep very well as we would find our selves sliding all over the place and the rails to stop us falling out the bed were just there to give us nice bruises all over our hips, and the toilet was delightful, when i rested my arm on the wall, to stop falling off the seat, it actually stuck there, it was so sticky, I don't even want to know what was on the walls. But we are alive and safe, just anyway because either one of us could be in prison right now, because as soon as we stepped off the bus, and keeping in mind that we were on it for 13 hours, we were grumpy, hungry, sticky, hot and tired, these swarms of guys which run hotel scams come at us at great speed and fed us their bulls***, all talking at us all at once and shoving their stupid business cards in our face……I don't really need to say why we could of ended up in prison, but I m sure you would understand. We finally jumped in a taxi in Hanoi to the crazy 'Old Quarter' and managed to find a hotel in the mayhem of the capital, the rest of the day consisted of us hiding out in our room with the air con cranked up, catching up on our sleep, well Darren did anyway, I spent three hours sowing badges on my backpack and having small tantrums because I cant sow and I kept p****ng myself and when I did manage to put one on, it was not straight and some how I managed to overlap the others…don't worry I put it down to my artistic brain, it gives it character right! We ventured out for some dinner at around six pm but it was so hot that we just had to eat and then get back to our room, and have our forth shower of the day, its really sad but imagine 40 degrees in a city that is so congested and over populated, its no fun. Its very amusing watching the city life though, we sat in a restaurant on the balcony and just people watched.
We were in a city called Hue before this and to be honest it was just another city and not much to see, the first day there we just hired bicycles and then went to the Citadel which is basically a 10km city within a city, which is all within a wall, and has some ancient buildings but it was nothing special, people live in the Citadel so it looks no different to anywhere else. We stopped there just to have a break before getting on the bus again. We are staying in Hanoi for two nights and then going to Halong Bay which I am so excited about as it looks amazing, there are some beautiful caves that is a must see, and some more island hopping and some more sun and sea. I cant believe our time in Vietnam is coming to an end its been amazing!!
Darren has tooth ache and we found a dentist of course and they were wanting to cut his gum where his wisdom teeth are coming through, he was trying to explain that the pain is not there but they insisted, we walked out but shame he still has tooth ache but would you trust a dentist that cant speak English and is wanting to cut your gums haha.
missing everyone so much but have not forgotten anyone and look forward to e-mails and little messages you send us.
take care love Kel And Dal
