Whilst on the GreyHound on the way to Jasper Nation Park, we passed Calgary and Edmonton - both built up cities, but maybe worth seeing for a day or two maybe?!
The 12hour journey from Banff to Jasper wasn't as long as I'd thought. Perhaps because we travelled through the night and that we Tried to get some sleep that it seemed quicker. The journey was so rickety - it was pot hole mania on the roads! The scenery on the way was pretty much flat land and nothing to see, but as soon as we were nearing Jasper the scenery changed and the trees became evergreen again as aposed to bare twigs and the mountains suddenly appeared covered in more snow than Banff!
Once in Jasper - sun was shining but was extremely cold! The HI Jasper hostel that we booked up was the closest hostel to the town, but yet it was still 7km away, so we were pretty remote. Getting to and from town was a nightmare, as the public transport was non existant and so had to rely on the "shuttle bus" (which was actually a car) that ran twice a day - one at 09:00 and 17:00, which was pretty crap!
As we finally settled with a mug of tea at the hostel two girls that we had met in Banff hostel turned up unexpectedly at the Jasper hostel, which was really great! We got talking and arranged to go to Milagne Lake with them tomorrow as they had a car to get there....We have found that you really do need a car in Jasper to get to anywhere!!
