Today is Saturday, July 21. Sorry that I haven't blogged in awhile!
Okay...so backing up to Wednesday. Joni and I left Paris Wednesday afternoon and took the chunnel to London. The chunnel goes through the English Channel underwater, but you can never really tell that you are underwater. My ears popped a lot but that was all. When we got into London we bought an Oyster Card which is unlimited travel on the London Metros and buses. We checked into our hostel, The Generator. We were pretty tired to we took a nap and then went downstairs and ate dinner at the hostel. It was happy hour too so we had a few drinks and then went back to the room. I watched like 4 episodes of Desparate Housewives on her iPod and she read. Yes girls, I watched that show! I might have to start DVRing that in the fall!
We went to bed early and slept in late again! Thursday morning we packed our bags again and moved to a different hostel, St. Christopher's Inn. After we checked in we went to Harrod's, the world's most famous department store. It is sorda like Nebraska Furniture Mart, Dillard's, Nordstroms, Target, and Sears all in one. It was soooo huge and everything was a designer name. We didn't buy anything!
Joni and I went back to the hostel so that we could meet up with Corey and Derek. We actually ran into them just outside the door so that worked out perfect! Next we met up with Ryan Blumkin from Omaha. All of us split some appetizers for lunch and then spent the afternoon talking. Ryan's aunt and uncle live in London (his uncle is the President of SC Johnson Europe division) and they wanted to take us all out to eat...but it didn't work out. Before we left for dinner Joni called her family back home and heard some bad news. Her grandmother passed away earlier that day. We decided to still go out for dinner...
We went to Covent Garden...which is a big area of shopping, restaurants, and bars, no gardens. Weird. We watched a magician in the street for 30 minutes. He was horrible and never did any tricks! Ryan led us to an Austrailian bar and we met a 65 year old energetic Austrailian man who told us all about the beer. He was pretty funny.
We returned to our hostel and Joni called her family and figured out plane tickets so that she could fly home and be with her family. We helped her pack everything and she left her huge backpack with us to take to Oxford. She only took a small bag on the international flight with her.
Friday morning we saw Joni off and Corey took her to the train station. Her flight left London at noon and she arrived in Omaha at midnight.
It rained and poured on Friday! We were going to take a walking tour of London but it was raining too much. We decided to go to lunch at the Hard Rock Cafe in London. Since it rained so much it flooded the metro system and we got stuck on a metro for about an hour. After the long wait we finally got to the Hard Rock. Of course, we shopped in the gift shop and I got a cool tshirt for Jake!
Lunch was good...then we went on a "vault tour" of stuff at the Hard Rock. The Hard Rock in London was the first Hard Rock EVER. We saw some important rock stuff and I got to hold Bon Joni's guitar! After our tour we wandered around Piccadilly Circus (which isn't a circus, ha). Finally we went back to our hostel.
We decided to go on a pub crawl last night. It was an organized thing where you walk around to different authentic bars. We ran into another guy from Nebraska who is going to Oxford at the first bar. He is from Lincoln. Crazy! The bars were fun...at the last bar the Nebraska guy got in a fight with a guy from California. The fight got kinda nasty and we went home.
Today is Saturday and we are going on the walking tour today. Today is the 17th day I have been gone! Only 28 days to go! We are all very excited to get to Oxford and settle in! We have been telling people in London that we are going to Oxford and everyone is very impressed that we got accepted! Ha!
Keep the messages coming...I miss everyone! Bye!
