On our way out this morning, we passed just near our hotel a building that we didn't know what it was but whenever we walked past there was heaps of people or tour groups out front of, today we decided to go have a look inside and it turned out to be Santa Maria Della Vittoria a church build in 1605 which was pretty amazing from inside and not much to look at from the outside.I was very excited to find out later that the church was in Dan Brown's book - Angels and Demons…
The first mission of the day today was new shoes! My feet were killing me, after a bit of walking we saw a shoe shop that sold the kind of shoes I was after on one of the main streets but after some waiting around out the front we realised it didn't open till 10am and it was only 9am, so we did some wondering around of some of the little side streets and found some nice looking little restaurants we could try for dinner tonight and then came across a cute little café where we stopped for a coffee and a very fresh chocolate croissant - yum! Finally the shoe shop opened and I got the shoes I wanted and we headed to the end of the street where we could see my favourite building - The Monument of Victor Emmanuel II (nicknamed the wedding cake). On our way there however it started to rain a little bit so we had to buy an umbrella.Once we got to the building we went inside and went up a few levels where there was an amazing view and also a caffetteria where we stopped and had lunch.
After lunch we stumbled across a very old church next door which was amazing on the inside, really amazing artwork everywhere! We snuck some photos as you weren't meant to take any.
Next to this was a piazza with Musei Capitolini which is the most ancient public museum in the world which we used our free entry pass to go in, we spend awhile in here but only saw a fraction of it, you would need all day to see it properly but there was statues in there from 2nd Century BC.
After here we walked down to the Church of Santa Maria which Dad wanted to go to and see Bocca Della Verita (Mouth of Truth) which is a mask in the side of the wall that according to legend will bite of your hand if you are a liar (From the movie Roman Holiday) We each took turns putting our hand in and good news - they didn't get bitten off!
We then went up the road to Circus Maximus and walked the length of it (where they use to have chariot races) then walked around the corner to catch a bus from the Colosseum back to near our hotel.
We then walked to a café we had spotted 2 days earlier that was full of cakes and pastries etc and couldn't resist afternoon tea! I had a Cannollo and Dad had a cornetti - really really good!
For dinner we went and looked at a few just down from our hotel and came across a really really cute one where all the walls were covered in wine bottles and almost every table was full of locals so we couldn't resist. I had the gnocchi alla sorrentano and Dad had a carbonara - both were really good. I have never tasted gnocchi as soft as that - they melted in your mouth, definately not like i've tasted in Australia...
Off to Sorrento tomorrow on the 9am train.

Ev Kellie, Your blogs are great but I've noticed there is a very definate theme to them....it's all about the FOOD! If your not eating, your looking for a place to eat, thinking about eating, looking at food you could eat, or talking about how great the food you just ate was...LOL I think your eating your way around the world, what a great way to go! Have fun....
Mum I wish i was eating as good as you two. Enjoy!!
Kara Sounds like you are having a wonderful time! Rome is such a wonderful city.. You will love Sorrento and the surrounding areas! Make sure you take the bus over to Positano. The bus ride is a little crazy but the views are beautiful!!
Carla If this trip doesn't inspire our "My Kitchen Rules" cuisine I don't know what will! So glad your having such a good time Kel
