Today we were catching the train to Nice and had another early start… we walked to the waterbus stop and caught the bus to the train station at 645am. We got on our train pretty hassle free… until once on the train and in our seats had another couple come over saying they were suppose to be in the same seats, we both looked over our tickets and they were the same so the other girls just went and sat in another spot….Then after closer inspection we realised that our seats were booked for yesterday! Oops!A few stops later another lady got on and said I was in her seat so I had to get up and sit across the aisle. Thankfully when the conductor came to check our ticket he didn't notice.2.5hours later we had to change trains in Milan so Dad went and told them and it cost us 6euro to change our seats for today which was good. We don't know how we didn't notice this before we left!Next leg of the journey took about 3hours and stopped at the last stop in Italy before crossing the border, and we had to change trains again here to a local train which took about 45mins to get us into Nice.Once we got the train station there was no way we were going to attempt finding our hotel with our suitcases so we got a taxi and arrived at our hotel at about 5pm.
We then went for a walk around the streets and down to the 'beach'.The beach was full of bigger rocks then the beaches in Italy but wasn't as dirty looking,, however still not impressive and it was absolutely freezing with the wind! It was definitely harder in Nice as unlike Italy they didn't have signs or menus in English. Most of Italy had English under all their signs and on menus etc which made it easier for us, the French don't. We were struggling with the sudden change in language too and kept wanting to say Grazie instead of Mercie etc.One thing similar to Italy though was the amount of dogs around, they are everywhere and people even take them into restaurants and shops and on buses and trains. In Nice there was definitely more homeless people but even all the homeless people begging for money had dog… one guy had a dog and a rabbit! And the rabbit had a leash on it and everything as they just sat on a corner begging for money… very strange!
Today after breakfast which was yet again just pastries, croissants and toast (not very nutritious!) we walked to the train station to catch the train down to Cannes, it was very overcast and we were prepared with umbrellas but the rain held off luckily but it was absolutely freezing, to the point where I had to buy a scarf at the first shop I saw!.It was about a 30min train trip to Cannes and when we arrived we walked straight down to the main street along the beach front. We didn't pick the best time to visit Cannes as its just a couple of days before the Cannes film festival and they were going absolutely insane setting up for it! I've never seen so much work going on… Every hotel along the main street and every restaurant had some sort of work happening and the whole beach front was a mess as they were carting away the yucky sand and dumping clean sand and spreading it along the really long beach. They were also setting up stages, piers, platforms and everything imaginable along the beach ready for the festival. The difference in cars, restaurants and shops here from anywhere else is pretty crazy - definitely a lot of money here! After a walk up and down the beach front we headed back to the train and had a coffee on the way.. next stop was Monte Carlo.
Monaco - WOW! Even the train station was amazing… and that's always the yuckiest part of any town! Never have I seen such a pretty and clean city. There was no graffiti, no rubbish in any streets, there wasn't even fingerprints in the stainless steel public lifts! Monaco was also getting ready for the grand prix which is on the same time as the Cannes film festival so there was grandstands set up all over town and all the streets were set up with barriers etc.We went down to the Marina and were just amazed at the boats, they were absolutely massive, I don't think I've seen so much money in one spot before, they were ridiculous, to the point where half of them had garages on the bottom level with a normal boat and jetskis etc in them!
After some more walking around we jumped on a bus which takes you right around and only costs 1euro, we went past the famous "Monte Carlo Casino'' which had soo many people and expensive cars out the front, we couldn't go in as guys had to have jackets and ties etc to get in. We got off at the old part of Monaco at the top of a hill where the Palace is and had a wonder around here and then walked along where they have these really pretty gardens and they overlook the other side of the town from on top of the cliff. It was then time to head home so we made our way on the bus again back to the train station and caught the bus back to Nice.

Kara Sounds lovely!!! I read that Cannes had some crazy wave that destroyed the beach, so that might have been why they were putting new sand down also..
mum Cannes looks like my kind of place lol Keep dad away from those fancy cars too. Haha
