Saturday and Sunday (27 & 28th of December) was a well deserved girly CHILL OUT DAY! On Saturday I didn't get up until 11am, then I met the girls for lunch before we relaxed with a 1 hour hot stone massage for just 40 soles (about £10), and it was the BEST massage I have ever had :) We treated ourselves to chocolate and then met Frida, Alex and Oli (german couple) for drinks in the evening. It was lovely to spend time with the group again, we all got on so well and we could actually enjoy having a few drinks together in a warm environment, as opposed to outside and knowing we would have to be up early in the morning! I was very lucky to meet a Perivian guy on Sunday who walked me to Saqaywoman to see the view of the city and around. He was so interesting, and I learnt so much in the 2 hours I was with him, it was fantastic. What shocked me more was that he didn't want money from me! In fact, we wanted nothing from me! He told me he just wanted to chat and practise his English with someone. Great! After having a great lunch in a Mexican restaurant just off from the Plaza de Armas, I took the girls to my Israeli-based hostel, Luzerna and we chilled there before heading out for a pizza. Later that evening I managed to meet up with Caroline, a long lost friend who I met in Camp America - so maybe we hadn't seen each other for 4 years or so, and now she is travelling South America! CrazY! Was great to see her and catch up but I only lasted until just gone midnight, when I decided to be safe and jump in a taxi to take me back to my hostel which was only a 10 minute walk, but at night I didn't want to risk it. However, having spoken to the young taxi driver who was asking me who I was travelling with, what I had to drink this night, if I had a boyfriend (don't worry parents, I had a great story to tell in Spanish - I loved girls, not guys, I don't drink so had a coke and had 3 friends that I was meeting in the hostel) he still didn't quite grasp that he shouldn't stop the car half way up the road of my hostel, and pull his chair back to reach out to ...well, I don't know, I didn't wait to find out. I threw the 3 soles in the car and walked down the road to my hostel. The only time I have ever really needed to think about being 'safe' as I was alone at this time, and the actual taxi driver gives me a hard time! Whatever next hey!
Sunday was spent walking around the town trying to avoid the persistent rain, waiting for our 10 hour night bus to Arequipa (65 soles) with Frida and Shacar. I slept well, and we arrived in time, about 6am - we jumped straight on the next bus to Mollenda where we decided we would spend our New Years Eve...in the sunshine, by the beach!
