Part 2 Madagascar: After arriving back in Tana (Antanananvo) we set off towards Andasibe to stay at a Lodge that many locals drive to on the weekends as a retreat.WHen I say locals I mean like Diplomates not Madagascar locals. The drive was a long one zig zagging our way throught the small towns and mountains we stopped at a reptile farm that I knew was going to be a waste of time when I saw it.Boy waqs I wrong they had a great selection of Madagascar reptiles of every size and color. Many of them we would never had seen had we not stopped here.
The next morning we awoke and headed out early to see the feeding of the Lemur's on Lemur island a small island with saved Lemurs living on it quite happily.Lemurs don't swim so these guys just hang out all day swinging by the tress and arguing with each other. Why they don't steal one of the canoes we used to get there is a mystery to me.
After seeing some more critters we headed off again heading back to Tana.We stopped along the way to have lunch and see a really local market saying hi to everyone as we felt very welcome here.Joy and I hired a ricshaw driver and had a ride down main street as the way the locals do.Not to worry about my big belly these guys carry four 100lbs bags of rice on these with no problem.
Back in the car we head into Tana after four hours in the car seeing people washing thier clothes in the nearby rivers.Next morning we get up early as we are heading south to Ranomafana another very small town in the mountains to see different Lemurs.Passing small village by even smaller village everybody wanted to wave and say hi.It wasn't until halfway there that our guide told me what they were saying.I thought "wass up" but they were saying "Salama Vassa" which is hello white skin person. Not a put down just what they call white skin people.
Waking up the next morning we headed back into the forest for a four hour hike. Now I believe this is where I got Lemur overload.I guess I got spoiled after seeing them up close in the reserves as looking at them 50 feet into a tree was not doning it for me anymore.Next morning we packed up our stuff and headed north again stopping along the way to meet the locals give them some of our clothes. We had stopped the day before and a 15 year old girl asked our guide to ask Joy if she had some old underpants as she needed some.Joy and I put together some of our old clothes after having them washed and stopped serveral times to hand them out.The people were very happy to take them and if you ever come here bring old clothes as some people are wearing rags.
I am going to end here as we have to pack again heading home this time.I will finish this report and sum it up after we get home. There are many new pictures I uploaded on the super trucker album so have a look at them.Till next time tace Care Keith and Joy
