We have just spent the day at Fraser Island, it is the biggest island entirely made of sand, there is supposed to be more sand on Fraser Island than there is in the Shara Desert. The weather was great, hot and sunny just like in the photograph. We have nearly changed colour. There was a lot of vegetation and it also has a rainforest. Quite amazing really when you consider the whole island is made up of sand. It is also the habitat for some of the world's deadliest snakes and true to form we didn't see any or dingo's either. We shall see all the animals when we go to Australia zoo. The tour round the island in a full size, four wheel drive coach was something else. The driver thought he was Colin McRae. We had to wear seatbelts all the time and as the roads were tracks in the sand it was a very bumpy hair-raising ride. The sand is very white and very fine and it stretched for miles. They advise you not to go swimming in the sea because of the strong currents, all sorts of jellyfish and not least sharks. We plodged in Eli Creek which was cold and then we swam in Lake Garawongera which was a freshwater lake and very warm, about 25 degrees. The return journey was delayed because the driver couldn't get the bus to start and we had to wait for a replacement. We then came across a 4 wheel drive stuck in the sand tracks and the bus driver had to tow it out because we couldn't get past. Quite an eventful day. Tomorrow is another day and time to move on again, this time just a short drive to a place called Noosa where we are staying for three nights.
