As made infamous by Mike Tyson, one night in Bangkok and the world's your oyster - anything goes and I mean anything...
We arrived in Thailand, where the beaches meet jungles and the temples meet fried bugs. The land of the ladyboy and the land of the ping pong show, after two more night flights from Dubai and Colombo.
We headed straight to Khao San Road, the haven for anyone with a backpack to find somewhere to sleep for the few days in Bangkok before venturing north. After a few failed attempts, we found a hostel for £7 the end of the street after walking through the hundreds of touts (from suit makers to tuk-tuk drivers) in the Thai heat. The room had bathroom tiles on the wall of the bedroom and it felt like we were sleeping on bricks, but it was private and had an en suit.
We got rid of the bags in the room and headed out to explore KSR. Noodles (for a good sized plate) were 50 baht, around £1 and tasted great.
Now satisfied, full and educated on our surroundings, we went to catch up on some much needed sleep before venturing back into the nocturnal bars and clubs of KSR for a beer or few, some grasshoppers and scorpions (yum...!) and to meet some more backpackers.
Not sure what time we got in, but with V being sick down the toilet, day 1 of the adventure was definitely done.
