Hi everyone, im now back in Bangkok after my 4 days in chang mai, it was great, the area was so nice, much more peaceful the Bangkok! well apart from the crickets!!! My next day in chang mai after my last entry consisted of getting up early to start the trek (22/9/07). We started off by getting a taxi truck (kind of like a pick uptruck but with seats in the back) to a waterfall on the way to the hills/mountains! it took us about 1 and a half hours to get there, but it was well worth it! It was beautiful and so nice to be able to have a dip after a long trip. The girls had to stay covered in sarongs as we couldnt show much flesh as its disrespectful, but the cool water was so refreshing. We then had lunch egg fried rice, it was really good, our tour guides were cooking for us on our trek in to the hills and all the meals were so good. After lunch we set off again for another 1/2 hour till we got to the place where we started our hike!! The first hill nearlly killed me it was so steap!! it was like using the step machine at the gym on the hardest level for about 15mins straight that may not sound much to some but that nearly killed me and most of the others joe said it was like have multiple heart failure!!! and that wasnt all! We had to hike up the mountain side for about an hour while was also so steep, i was left trailing at the back, but the tour guides rambo, skyby and chai kept me goin, we walked a total of just over 2 hours that day and by the end my legs were likr gelly and we were all so very sweaty!! After the 2 hour hike we arived in a small village only 25 houses/huts, when we were going to stop that night, the hut we stayed in was comfy enough but basic and the squat toilets are something else!!!, we had green curry for tea and the went to bed about 11 after a few songs round the dinner table!
The next day (23/09/07) we walk/hiked for 4 hours we climbed up the biggest hillside ever, we were all nearly dead by the end, but i was at the back again! infact nearly 1/2 hour behind the others which was good for them cause they got a good long break waiting for me to catch up, but not so great for me as i tended to only get 5 mins before we set off again!! after the 4 hours we arrived at an elephant camp where we had an elephant ride to the next village, where we stayed over night. The elephant ride was good prety scary tho, being so high and going up and down steap hill sides, i thought i was going to fall off at one point!! we arrived in the next village and went for a swin in the river which was so nice after 4 hours walking!! we then had a tour of the village and some of the lads played football with the locals, this village was bigger an had about 50 houses/huts and had a school where all the children from smaller villages like the one we'd been to the day before could use, but the had to stay there during the week like boarding school. We then had dinner which was red potatoe curry and sweet and sour chicken, it was again really good. We played this game after dinner called ping, pong, pang which was so funny and would have been a great drinking game had we had any thing to drink!!! but we didnt so the punishment for going wrong was getting you face marked with the black crap of the bottom of the tea pot or frying pan!!! so we all ended up looking so stupid!! the accomadation wasnt as good as the night before but was still ok.
On the third and final day of the trek (25/09/07) we didnt have to walk anymore thank god!! instead we got bamboo rafts and we rafted down the river it was so nice not to be walking but the rafts werent that comfy. It took us 3 hours to raft down the river and i nearly came off a few times, we all got really wet but it was great fun. I also got a bit burnt on my legs as my lotion kept getting washed off, but there not too bad! After the rafting we had to get a taxi truck back to the hotel in Chang Mai it took up another 2 hours. When we got back to the hotel we had a well needed shower and put all our clothes in to be washed they were all so dirty!!! we then went out for dinner and on to a discoteque called bubble afterwards where we all drank loads and had a good dance to loosen the joints!!! we got back about 3.30am it was a good nite, we spent the next day not doing to much just recovering from all the strange cocktails we'd all been drinking!! we checked out at 12 (25/9/07) and went to find a good english breakfast, which we did at the irish pub from the other night. After breakfast went round Chang Mai untill we met back up with rest of the group to get the night train back to Bangkok. We said good bye to Sue and Sonya as they were flying down south, we may meet up with then when we get there.
Once back in bangkok (26/9/07) we said good bye to the americans Spencer, Henry, Renee and Tara and set of in search of breakfast and an internet cafe, which is where in at now!!! Ive managed to post some pics and will be here for a very long time to get the rest up but ive got all day!! later me, Joe, Rob, Karen and Lynn will meet our next tour guide for the south trip, it'll hopefully be a bit less active and more sun bathing!!!! the trip so far has been so good, im really enjoying myself! we'll also meet another 2 people who will be goining the group to go down south later. We'll set off tomorrow night on another night train to the south.
Well i hope im not boring you to much but im kind of using this site as my diary so when i get back i can remember all the stuff ive done and when i did it. Well i hope everyone ok back at home and ill keep you upto date when i can.
