The final blof for today
Another dam scarey minibus journey got us here to a town called Kuala Tahan not before several near collisions, change of minibus 3 times and other stops at needless places.
Kuala Tahan is a small village opposite (across a river crossing) from the National Park of Taman Negara. We are staying at Yellow Guesthouse, one of the more popular due to its reputation for not been as bed-bug infested as many others.
A few minutes behind the guesthouse on the river are a collection of a dozen house-boats with terrible restaurants, poor food and small portions meant last night we ate at one then moved to another for another meal.
The jungle is the main attraction and rightly so, the well marked trails take you to jungle hides for viewing animals and although we chose not to, you can stay in them overnight should you wish. We have done 3 treks in 3days, including a walk to the 50mtr high canopy walk over rope bridges spanning nearly 300mtrs, we watched the sunset in another hide although we didnt see too much the 3 wild pigs crossing the salt-lick (small pond) were nice to see and the sound of the jungle coming alove at night is spectacular on the ears. The final walk today saw off the last of our leg power and we retreated back to the guesthouse to relax.
Just at the park entrance is an expensive resort, the only one around and after trying out the breakfast buffet today we are heading back tonight to have some decent grub. probably no beer as its 19RM (4quid) for a small 330ml can of Tiger.
Its been cheap here, the digs were cheap and by avoiding paying the local tour companies we have saved pounds by simply following signs around the trails and hides.
Off tomorrow to get to Tioman Island for hopefully for some more Scuba diving and maybe a cheap beer as its a duty free island. Woop.
Internet in Malaysia is about as reliable as Keving Keegan (ie it tends to quit often and without warning) so we will try get on as often as we can.
bye for now x
