Hey guys, we are actually in Singapore right now, but only for one night so thought I would title it for our stay over the last 5 nights.
We got a public bus from Kula Tahan (Taman Negara) to Jerantut and another public bus to Kuantan, then another coach to Mersing where we stayed the night in a hotel. A long day of travelling to not really go very far but hey ho thats what its all about!
Mersing its basically a port to catch a boat out to the Pulau Tioman, but as the tide is low from around 3pm and we arrived after 5pm we decided to stay the night in the pleasant little town in a budget but very nice hotel, it had a tV and everything. (I think we watched the film Marley and me).
We boared the boat the next day at 11.30, with a bunch of very odd tourists that were travelling as a massive group, they were taking millions of photos of each other, nearly all of their photos must have me and G pulling faces and sticking 2 fingers up in them he he, we got a bit fed up of two hours with them to say the least!!! Luckily they got off at the bay before the one we wanted to get off at but we were worried were going to be epnding 5 nights on a secluded beach with them.
We got off on the last stop called Salang and found a half decent chalet to stay in. Not realising that we backed onto a merky river teaming with giant monitor lizards ( looking like crocs) and a million aggressive monkeys that lived in the jungle behind us., oh and giant squirrels that look like skunks.
We heard some of the locals that lived in the chalets near us doing some work to tidy the area up so Graham went out and helped 2 ladies knock down a dissused toilet shack, in fact Graham took over being the man and all and the ladies were very appreciative and gave us biscuits and juice,. The husband of the lady then became out mate for the rest of the 5 days, Terry Tioman he was nicknamed and we met him every day for a chit chat, such nice people, he looked like a malaysian Del boy with no teeth.
We did some snorkelling and saw some amazing fish including a ray, we also scuba dived and went for a speed boat trip around the island in Terry's boat. Sad really, as his boat broke down and we had to be toed back, we felt dorry for him as it was his pride and joy.
On our last day we did some fishing but caught nothing to eat, only pretty fish which we quickly put back in the sea, and I have to say I was a dab hand and caught more than Graham, maybe my shark like reflexes did the trick!
So today we travelled back to the mainland by boat and got on and off 4 buses to get through the border of Malaysia and Singapore, a very weird set up but we are here now.
Next Blog will be from India, bit apprehensive but hopefully I will be pleasantly surprised, fingers crossed!
Missed a bit: Monkey Attacks
The Tioman has lots of wild monkeys that like to scavange the bins etc when people are not around. While snorkling in the sea a monkey moved towards our gear left on the beach. Luckily we were just walking back and as it approached our bag to snatch it I quickly threw my big yellow flippers at it. You would think it would dart away quickly but no no. This mad monkey, turned toward me, growled showing its sharp yellow teeth and took 2 quick jumps toward me. Being the tough guy I.......... fell backwards, tumbling over myself in the sand while people looked on and the 6ft + man rolling away from a cute little monkey. Nic was laughing for hours afterwards, as no doubt was the monkey.
Monkeys are not cute, they are only nice to see on TV not in real life
