Bus was relatively painless apart from the border crossing where we had to take allll our bags of the bus and through security! We arrive at about 4pm and are tired, hot and can't wait to get to our air conditioned hotel room, when the bus drops us off, a taxi offers to drop us to the hotel, we ask if it is walking distance and he says no. We ask how much ( having absolutely no idea of the currency) and he says it's on a metre, which we have realised is usually a very fair price so we agree as most taxi drivers refuse to turn on there metres. We drive for about 5 minutes and stop at a cash point on the way, I notice the metre is going up very fast even when we aren't moving, when we get out he charges us 500,000 dong we guess this isn't much as all the currencies so far have been ridiculous but when we get to the hotel and google the amount we realise it's £14!! For a 2 minute taxi! Even worse when walking around later we realise he took us round the block and we were actually on the same road we started on! So that ruined out first impression of Vietnam, we have dinner go for drinks at a few rooftop bars and end up talking to a welsh bartender and his Vietnamese girlfriend for about 3 hours! Suddenly everything is closed and it's home time!
