Today we went to the killing fields, you get given a headset and map and are directed around the area showing where certain things would have happened and hearing stories from people who were there, thousands of people were brutally killed and then just thrown in pits some were even buried alive. We were told not to go when it's raining as bits of clothing, bones and teeth rise to the surface and can be seen when your walking around, we didn't go when it was raining but still managed to see a few bones and clothes poking out the grass as we were walking round. One of the worst bits we saw was the killing tree which we were told hundreds of babies were smashed against to save on costs of killing them in other ways, the babies were then tossed into their own masspit next to the tree. In the middle of the killing fields is a huge memorial for everyone who's was a victim of the Khmer Rouge, and inside there was hundreds and hundreds of skulls and bones lines up, each colour coded to show how each person was killed. A very depressing but interesting day, still crazy to think it happened just 30 years ago! To cheer us up we find a weird bar/restaurant/cinema showing inbetweeners 2 and selling cinema food like hotdogs, nachos and popcorn! And instead of seats there are loads of double beds and cushions! Great find! Then home to bed after a long day.
