Buon giorno!
A few days ago I got back from my weekend in London! It was a lot of fun. I went on Thursday night and left Sunday morning so I basically spent 2 full days there. London is an hour behind Italy and also uses the pound not the Euro so that took some getting used to. It was tough trying to figure out a new currency in 2 days! Thursday night when we arrived we just got dinner and then went to bed. We ate dinner in an area called Piccadilly Circus which is London's equivalent to Times Square in New York City. There were lots of stores, restaurants, and it was all lit up very bright.
On Friday morning we got an early start and went on a free tour of London. We got to see Buckingham Palace, Big Ben, the London Eye, Westminster Abbey and more. Big ben is the giant clock you will see in my pictures. Big Ben actually refers to the bell inside the clock. It was very pretty especially when it was lit up at night. The London Eye is a giant ferris wheel, the biggest in europe. Intsead of chairs for 2-3 people around it, there were big bubbles that could fit 15 people in each. I was hoping to go on it but it was pretty expensive. After the tour we got lunch and warmed up, we were pretty chilly because it was cold and rainy during the tour. After Lunch we went to the department store Harrod's which is very famous. We then went into the National Gallery (an art museum) for a bit. Almost all the museums in London are free so it was great! After the museum we went to the church next to Big Ben and listened to the Westminster Abbey Choir. They were really good! It was also great because we got to see the inside of the church for free by going to listen! After that we just walked around a bit more and then headed back to our hostel.
On Saturday we did another tour this time of an older section of London. We got to see St Paul's Cathedral, London Bridge, Tower Bridge, Tower of London, a few museums to name a couple. It was a 3 hour tour so we saw a lot! After the tour we went to Oxford Street which is full of stores. We went into a couple stores but it was absolutely insane because of Christmas. I have never seen stores so busy in my entire life. Some of them were even worse than stores on black Friday! Saturday night we found a nice restaurant to get dinner and then got to bed early because we had to wake up at 4am for our flight on Sunday!
Overall I really enjoyed London. I would have liked more time since, as with any city, it is impossible to see in a few days. Still I had a lot of fun and I loved the sights and Big Ben. The people were also very friendly. Even the airport security on Sunday were really nice!(and it was 6am!)The hostel we stayed in was a room of 9 and it worked out pretty well. It was a great location and was very close to the tube (the subway in London). The tube was great! It is huge and very reliable, comes almost every 3 minutes. That made getting around the city very easy since it is too big to walk.
This weekend I was going to go to Munich, Germany but the trip I was signed up for, unfortunately got cancelled. Instead I will probably going to Interlaken, Switzerland! I've heard it is beautiful there since the town is right at the base of the alps. I only have 2.5 weeks left in florence! It is coming to an end very quickly and although I am excited to see everyone at home I will definitely miss Italy a lot. The city has started to turn on all the Christmas lights hung up throughout the streets. So at night the city is very pretty. I also decorated my room a bit with some christmas decorations. It will definitely be weird coming home 4 days before christmas!
That is all my news at the moment. Hope you are all enjoying the holiday season at home, I definitely wish I was home for it!
Ciao!
