Ciao!
I just spent the weekend in Genoa and Cinque Terre! This was another trip through my study abroad program so it is free I just had to sign up! On Saturday I left around 7:30 on a 3 hour bus ride to Genoa. Genoa is a port town so it is right on the ocean. As soon as my group arrived we went on a tour for about an hour and then got some free time for lunch. Saturday was pretty cloudy and Genoa wasn't that interesting unfortunately. It had some pretty churches and buildings but there wasn't much to do or see. Plus we do so many tours on each trip I am starting to get a bit toured out! After we finished in Genoa we got back on the bus for an hour and stopped in Santa Margherita. The town was gorgeous and right on the coast. We only stopped for about an hour so I got some gelato and relaxed on the beach. The water was very warm plus the weather cleared up so it was sunny outside! After Santa Margherita we got back on the bus for a 45 minute bus ride to the hotel. That night we had dinner at the hotel. The food was okay but the dessert was delicious! The hotel wasn't very close to anything so after dinner I headed to bed.
The next morning we met at 8:15 to leave for Cinque Terre. Cinque terre (pronounced chink-way) means 5 lands. It consists of 5 small coastal towns all close together. To hike them all I have heard is gorgeous but is about 9 miles. I wish I got the chance to do that(or at least part of it, the whole thing would have been long!) but there wasn't enough time. We traveled between each one on either ferry (for most of the them) and a train (for one of them). It was absolutely perfect weather the entire day, not a cloud in the sky. Plus the area was gorgeous. I really enjoyed the day. The area is also famous for it's pesto, focaccia bread, and seafood (all of which I tried at some point on Sunday). We spent an hour or 2 at each small town. We got a small tour and then some time to walk around at all of them. I got a big piece of focaccia bread at the first town (focaccia bread is a fluffy bread with lots of seasonings and can have a variety of foods pressed into it-I had it with olives!) It was delicious. At the last town we got a little more time so we stopped for lunch and I got excellent pesto and mussles( 2 different courses). (Pesto is made with basil, olive oi, pine nuts or walnuts, and garlic.) Overall I really enjoyed sunday. It was a really nice day and Cinque Terre is really pretty. I got lots of great pictures and would love to go back sometime and try the hike! After visiting 4 of the 5 the towns we got back on the bus and it was about a 1.5 hr drive home. All the traveling between towns Saturday and Sunday was tiring but it was fun. It is hard to believe I have already been here a month because I have done so much! This weekend I do not have any travel plans. I will probably spend the weekend doing a few things around Florence, getting some homework done, and I might take a day trip to Pisa which is very close by train.
Well that is all for now I am pretty tired from my trip still and I have a bit of homework to do! I also posted the pictures from the wine tasting trip in the same album as the genoa/cinque terre pictures so be sure to check them out! Hope everyone is doing well at home! Also thank you everyone for all the messages on my message board! I really enjoy hearing from everyone :)
Buono Serata!
