We drove to Coober Pedy today which is an Opal Town in remote South Australia, not a very big population (not many over 1,000 I think). We arrived late in the afternoon and headed out to see Crocodile Harrys house, he was a crocodile hunter from Queensland who decided to move to Coober Pedy to mine for opals, he cut his own mine by hand and lived about km's out of town like a hermit.
The next day we visited the Old Timers mine which was great, it also had on display a few rooms from the underground house that people lived in a few years ago now, we even went noodling for Opals (searching through the scraps of rock from the mines), we found our own bits which was amazing!
We then went to see some kangaroos being fed which was awesome, we also got to pat a baby one, we also bought a boomerang as well!
Then in the car on our way to Marla.
Day 6
We got up this morning and had a bit of a walk around the scrub in Marla which is really just a truck stop with a small supermarket and tavern. It's also the start of the Oodnadatta Track, we had a bit of a stroll on it, it's pretty rough!
Next stop is Erdunda, basically the turn off to Uluru.......
