After returning from Spain, I definitely feel a renewed sense of excitement to travel. I am learning to love and appreciate Toulouse, but our trip was well deserved. Rebecca and I have had many of the same troubles with the french bureaucracy, so it was great to get away and for 5 days forget the frustration at Mirail.
We started by taking the train to Girona to catch our Ryan Air flight that afternoon. Since we had several hours to kill we walked to the old town to check out the town. We were pleasantly surprised at how beautiful it was. For lunch we sat on a bench along the river and shared a baguette and some chocolate covered thing along with some nuts and oranges.
We then flew to Grenada and arrived in the evening in time for a tapas tour. There weren't many people in our hostel, but two other Argentinian guys joined us and we had a pretty fun night. In Grenada you only pay for a drink and then you choose a tapa for free. I like that system and it was a great way to try different tapas.
The next day we explored the Alhambra, which consists of the Moorish Palace, the Fort, and the Generalife. It took us three hours, but one of the coolest places I have ever seen. Romantic, Gorgeous and Interesting. I was so glad we got the audioguide, because although a bit cheesy, when you walked into a courtyard, he told you to imagine certain people living their taking part in there daily activities, or reading under a shaded try waiting for their loved ones. Because it is off-season, it wasn't very busy so you really got a sense of how it felt to live there. I want to live there.
We then SPRINTED, no joke, for our train to Seville.....we took the wrong way to the train station and we ended up running half way around the city to make it in time with our massive backpacks on. I felt like we were on the Amazing Race. Thankfully for late spain trains, we made it just in time.
Seville was an awesome city. We loved our hostel, met some cool people, had a music jam session on the rooftop patio and went to some awesome flamenco bars. We visited the third largest church in the world, the Seville Cathedral and also the Alcazar which was another interesting moorish/christian palace.
From there we travelled to Malaga and met up with Mallory and Brett, a couple that were in our room in Seville, to spend some relaxing time on the beach. I was trying to get all hard core and go for a hike in the El Torcal mountains, but I was so glad that we decided to just stay and relax on our last day. The beach was awesome, the water freezing, but we enjoyed the beautiful sunshine.
Now back in France, I'm starting to see more of the beauty of the city I think. Yesterday, as I got off the metro, an older couple in front of me, were laughing and the woman started dancing she was so happy and her husband held her hand and kissed her on the cheek. I have to say that people in France, definitely understand how to love one and other. Maybe not so much in the customer service industry but their polite expressions and touching ways of showing someone you care, is really quite sweet. Even if I'm meeting someone for the first time they still give me kisses on both cheeks and they say "Enchanté". love it.
