Day One - first proper day
Arrived in Mumbai at 1am after an hour of circling (obviously I remained calm, circling always makes me feel at ease). First impressions of India were wonderful - everyone smiling, the heat was ok, nothing stank too badly and our bags dutifully arrived. Just to get a taxi! Imagine my surprise when we were bundled into a rickety old piece of s*** with the luggage tied to the roof and a confused young driver. Beggars and dogs followed us for a while then gave up. Arrived at our hotel to be checked for bombs - the car, our bags, even Clover's teddy. That made us feel VERY relaxed.
Lovely big bed, wall mounted telly, mini bar, wet room - all the things children love! So far,so good. The girls collapsed at 2.30am and we woke at 10am. Managed to venture out the hotel to a local coffee shop where I made the stupid mistake of ordering iced coffee- everyone has told me NO ICE! Will update you on how well I am keeping that bad boy down. Fern was amazing, so interested in everything, so brave, so enthralled by the noises and colours. Just like I hoped. Clover moaned that she had a blister and
India was itchy. Just like I expected. Gave up on walking around the streets (there aren't any) and I was worried my gold glads would get covered in crap. Back to hotel and had a very civilised afternoon by the pool which was lovely. Palm trees, pizzas and beer. Weather is beautiful. No rain! Who told us India would be a struggle? Phoned daddy. Came back to room for showers and a nap. Going out with new friend tonight for dinner. I am managing, people!
