Day 9, 10
Temporarily gave up on hardcore backpacking and checked into the Ajit Bhawan 5 star palace hotel round the corner. Have died and gone to air con mini bar heaven. Rufus brought a little bit of Scottish culture to Rajasthan by binge drinking and dive bombing into the pool. Can only afford 2 days but am going to pretend I am my sister the whole
time. We lied to the guesthouse owners that we were 'visiting friends' as I couldn't face cheating on them with the better hotel 500 yards away. Knowing my luck one of them will wander round for some reason and see us drinking Mojito's in white bathrobes by the waterfall and we will be truly rumbled.
I don't feel so good and Lungy is struggling with the pollution and heat. Am coughing and spluttering most of the time. I think I have TB coming on. Which is my entirely my own fault since I painted Tippex thinner on the 'eggs' during the skin test in 1984 at school, which aggravated the bumps and allowed me and others to avoid the actual vaccination. Fast forward 25 years and that finally seems like a stupid idea. Rufus and the girls are all vaccinated so it is me and Lungy that will suffer. Anyway, will put a brave face on and get to the bar - it's Happy Hour!
Returned from bar several hours later having enjoyed the World Cup with some Koreans, some Germans (VERY pleased) and 2 Dutch girls. My Dutch didn't disappoint and after a few vodkas I asked them if they knew my friend Caroline Hulsker from Holland and then treated them to a verse of 'Pudele Pudele Pudele lekker en het vater'. They didn't seem to know it.
Called the hospital to see how my dad is - he needed painkillers during the night but is feeling positive. He is mobile so I can call shortly and he will hobble to the phone.
