Cont'd. My room at the floating lodge on the Amazon River was one of about 8. There was a small back house where the tour guides and cooks stayed also. The room at a bed and a bathroom with a shower, sink and toilet that used the river water. We ate lunch at the lodge which was something like fish, rice, beans and cucumber salad and fresh juice. I obviously didn't have the fish but the cooks were so kind and offered to make me eggs with my lunch and dinners. Once we were all settled in a little bit, Joshua (our tour guide) gave us a briefing on what our next few days were gunna look like. Then about 7 of us headed off in a small motor boat to go pihrana fishing. On the boat ride there I had to keep telling myself in my head "This is the real thing. This isn't a ride at Disneyland or a scene in a movie. I'm living this and this is the real Amazon jungle!!!!". We got to a little spot and started fishing with our bamboo fishing poles which had a thick wire as the line and somewhat normal
looking hooks I guess. Joshua used his machete to cut pieces of raw chicken off the bone for us to use as bate. That part was pretty gross for me, bating the hook and all but I managed through it. Joshua gave us a short talk on how to catch a pirhana, explaining that they are smart and fast, so once u feel a bite pull up in a zig zag motion really fast. And that was about all the instruction we got. About 5-10 minutes in someone caught one. People kept on catching them, about 6 or so. Finally about 30-40 minutes in or so I CAUGHT A PIRHANA! It was only my second time fishing in my life and the first time I caught a fish ever in my life and it was in the Amazon jungle and I caught a pirhana. So one if my tour mates took a picture of me and one of my greatest accomplishments and I was satisfied. Joshua also showed us how sharp their teeth are and how they can cut easily and comiclly through the grass reeds. Shortly after I caught my
little guy we headed out. Joshua wanted to show us something else. The weather was starting to get stormy a little but it made the sky beautiful! Joshua took us to this island and had us look up at the hundreds or thousands of sparrows flying over head.
