We checked out of the hostel in Milan today and got a taxi to the train station to catch a train to Rome. It was easier than we thought to get a train! I was happy that we both got window seats so we had a good view, but a weird American family were sat next to us that were a bunch of geeks!!
It took four and a half hours to get to Rome, and when we got there an Italian man at Tourist Information offered us a room at a nearby hotel.
What a nightmare though!!! I am surprised we are still alive!! The roads itself were absolutely crazy, like a death trap! When we got to the hotel just a few minutes away, we got in this small, stuff lift with the Tourist Information man and I couldn't believe it when it broke down!! My face seriously must have shown the fear I was feeling, because it was one of my worst nightmares come true!! We must have been stuck in it for atleast ten minutes, if not longer. The whole time the Tourist Information man just kept pressing buttons in the lift which wasn't doing anything to help and then talking through the lift in Italian to someone else, which also didn't help when we didn't have a clue what they were saying!! They could easily have been saying that the lift was just about to plummet to the ground or something!!
The hotel room was quite expensive for what it was!! A twin room, which literally had a shower on its own INSIDE the room in the corner! Very strange!!
The only good thing was that they had cheap bottles of water for 50 cents each, the only thing cheap I had seen by this point!!
We went for a look around the city and had a pizza in a cafe. We sat outside the Piazza Venezia for a while and then we found a bus tour of the city, which we are going on tomorrow.
