Last night was a very relaxing sleep. We slept with the sliding glass door to our balcony open, sleeping to the sounds of the ocean waves. We feel almost no movement-the only time you really notice any movement is when you're on the very top of the ship you can feel a vibration and then when we turn. However, once we hit the open seas, there definitely is more movement. Our bed is not the most comfortable thing in the world-it's very firm and not very soft. It reminds me of sleeping in a pop up. It's not like home, but it's doable.
This morning after going to bed around 1 am, we woke up at 5:45 am to breakfast in our room. We were going to sit outside, but it was very cold-probably upper 40's. So, we ate inside the room. After we finished eating, our full attention was given to watching College Fjord. It was very pretty, but I have a feeling that Glacier Bay National Park tomorrow is going to be even better. We saw a few otters and these white birds with gray and black wings (no, they weren't seagulls). In fact, later this morning I saw about 5-6 otters swimming together and got some video of it-hopefully that will be up soon.
After we exited College Fjord, I took a nap and Chris hit the casino for a bit. Afterwards we had lunch and I played 11 holes of golf on the golf simulator. It was really cool-think Nintendo wii while using real golf clubs. I was talking to the lady who was running it. She was about my age and from Sydney, Australia. She said on a whim she decided to go work on a cruise ship for 6 months. Now, 2 years later, she's still doing it and loves it.
Right now we're cruising through the Gulf of Alaska and on our way to Glacier Bay National Park. Right now we don't see a whole lot of land around us so there isn't much wildlife to be seen. Just like lakes in the Midwest, fish and all other wildlife, including seals, otters and whales, are attracted to areas of land because there's more protection there and that's where the food is. Right now we're looking at the Illinois version of the seas-flat and desolate and not much to see. It's also a very chilly day-cloudy and low to mid-50's. However, we can't be too far from land since I'm seeing birds.
That's it until tonight-we're just taking it easy and relaxing today. I won $40 playing Roulette this afternoon, but I also lost $40 playing blackjack, so all in all I'm coming out even, which works just fine for me. Enjoy the pictures!
