Walked to the supermarket which is about 5 mionutes away across a CRAZY road, everyone drives pretty slowely but aren't very predictable! there appears to be three lanes on the road and the middle one is for overtaking but in both directions.....After checking out the supermarket I decided to head towards the beach and see what that was like. After I had been walking for about 5 minutes a local guy who had been just in front of me slowed down and started chatting, he was very talkative and I learnt alot about the local area from him. When I got to the beach it wasn't exactly the idilic setting that is photographed in the lonely planet guide but there was sand and sea so i walked in the shallows for a little while.
Walking back to the hotel, and from every shop/house/hotel that had someone outside came the greeting "BULA" Everyone is very friendly - too friendly maybe! In the first 5 minutes of walking I was offered about 3 lifts then it started raining a little and pretty much every car stopped and asked me where I was going, they could take me - Don't worry Mummy I carried on walking! :) The rain wasn't bad atall, just a tropical shower, quite nice and cooling! On the whole the weather today was amazing apart from the little bit of rain and hopefully tomorrow will be the same just without the rain! Met a couple of people, also 19 and also travelling alone. We spent most of the day lazing by the pool on loungers or in the hammock - we got all 3 of us in together! We shared a HUGE pizza between the 3 of us it only cost $12.60 - about 6pounds. Then we went onto the roof, drank sambucca and lemonade and watched the sunset! It was beautiful and there wasn't anywhere in the world that I would rather have been! The canadian guy - Brandon - played his mouth organ and we all watched the stars come up! Sat in the hotel bar where there was live music, they were playing sogns by Timberland and Ronan Keating but with a Fijian twist! Pretty much all the employees at the hotel got up at one point and sang and danced along to the fijian welcoming song.
