We've finally arrived!
And all we've done is shop.
Okay, well initially, the flight was long. And tiring. And we had the great joy of waiting for 7 hours at Heathrow for the connection to Dublin. But we've begun a list of entertaining boys along our trip. We'll start with the Meerkat Boys. A soccer team, maybe 15 to 18 years old, from Melbourne, who spent most of the first 8 hour flight popping their heads over their seats to check Kate out. Very amusing in a they're such cute little creatures way. Next up was Mini-Jimmy, who was one of the Meerkats (which we've also decided is a verb - ie Meerkatting) who was just like Jimmy, but younger, and taller. And then there was Blanket Boy, who was really really good looking, but spent too much of the flight under his blanket. And then there was Nick/Sam guy, who had fabulous biceps and who led us through the underground maze of tunnels under the aiport. At Dublin airport we saw A Bunco lookalike and a Vosper lookalike and in Dublin we saw Booker working in a hairdressers?- we are collecting look alikes of people at home. The people we hope dont look like people from home are the two people we saw peeing on the wall of our hostel and the crazy old?transvestite in pink tights and fur coat?we have already seen twice around the city (Dublin's equivalent of Dancing Man).
Dublin is cold and rainy, it is very strange to see rain, my hair (kate) has gone completely curly, especially because i can't be bothered doing my hair properly. Already missing our beds, pillows, bathrooms.......
We haven't done much in Dublin, lots of wandering and window shopping, i havent had to drag Melissa out of too many shoe shops and she hasn't bought any yet. On the other hand i have bought a pair of fake cons for 6 euro ($12 AUS)!!!
We went to Trinity Collage and went to see the Book of Kells, part of the building was the Library which was two floors of floor to ceiling old books, we could have spent all day sitting and looking at them, apart from the annoying American tourists who were being loud and obnoxious. The best thing we saw in the Library was an Irish copy of the Yellow pages just sitting among these century old books on one of the shelves.
Last night we went out for a drink with a group of French backpackers we met at the hostel, conversing was interesting. If we missed one word the conversation would take a completely different tangent and the whole point would have been missed. There have not been many Aussies around, we currently have two American roommates who are lovely but complete slobs (they do have nice smelling hairspray). We spent this afternoon in St. Stephens Green enjoying the only sun Dublin has seen in years, we shall post a photo of all the green for you to look at, we also thought of getting a photo of a puddle, but that would be rubbing it in a bit too much.
This afternoon we did some of our washing and spent a good hour under the hand dryer in the bathroom trying to dry them before we head off on our tour tomorrow. We will post more soon, xoxo
