We've had an adventurous last couple of weeks, since arriving in Darwin, travelling through the Red Centre and arriving in Melbourne via the Great Ocean Road. In Darwin we visited Litchfield National Park and did a crocodile jumping cruise which was pretty crazy as they hold up pieces of meat and the wild crocs jump metres out of the water for it. Litchfield National Park was full of waterfalls and natural spa like swimming holes but the beware of the crocodile signs put us off spending too long in the water! It was a long 21 hour bus journey down to Alice Springs where we started a bush camping tour of all the main sights. In 3 days we visited Uluru (Ayers Rock), Kata Tjuta, Kings Canyon and slept out under the stars in all that can be described as the bush! It was an amazing tour and all the previous pictures we had seen of the area dont do it justice- the colours and different landscapes really are stunning- definatly more then just a big rock. Having spent the first night checking non stop for spiders, snakes and all the other killer scary animals its surprising how well we slept in our swags, not that either of us are hardend campers now, but it was an experience we wont forget! On our way down to Southern Australia we stopped for a night at Coober Pedy, a mining town where 60 percent of the people live in underground houses and we had an underground bunkhouse for the night. Leaving the outback we arrived in Adelaide and picked up a 'Wicked' campervan which was our home for the next 6 days. It was great fun and even the non stop rain and cold weather didnt stop us enjoying the Great Ocean Road. The coastline and different rock formations are really impressive and theres plenty of winding coastroads, great views and even Koala bears in the trees. At Phillip Island just outside Melbourne we went to the Penguin Parade where hundreds of tiny penguins come onto the beach at sunset each night, they were so cute, waddling around looking for their burrows and getting lost! Melbourne is a great city and we've spent the last few days seeing the sights and enjoying a warm, dry hostel after our recent camping and caravanning mission!
