G'day! So finally we are updating our blog in Australia. We flew into Perth and it was freezing - well actually about 18 degrees but after the heat and humidity of Asia if felt really cold! If only our British winters were that temperature! Spent a few days in Perth, went to Kings Park which had great views of the citys skyline and got organized, including food shopping - no more nice meals out for us its cooking and hostel beds from now on!!
Travelling up the coast our 1st stop was Cervantes, as soon as we left the city the landscape turned really barron, with nothing around for miles on end. On our way to visit the Pinnacles we saw our 1st kangaroo, Katie was very excited much to the amusement of the locals who just see them as a pest. The Pinnacles Desert is a huge area covered with all different shape and sized limestone rocks rising out of the ground - it was really dramatic. The next town on the coast was Kalbarri, which has an amazing National Park, whales and dolphins off the coast and pelicans on the beach. We also went to Hutt River which is a princeipality seperate to Australia with its own currency, laws, flag and the Prince himself even stamped our passports! It was a strange place more like and outback farm with a goverment office and royal family! Its starting to get warmer the futher north we get and we have met lots of people which is one good thing about staying in dorm rooms once you're used to the creeky bunk beds! We had a great day at Monkey Mia where wild dolphins come right into the shore each morning - we were lucky enough to get the chance to feed them. We also spent a few nights at a tiny resort called Coral Bay where we braved the freezing water to snorkel on the Ningaloo Reef. It was an amazing reef only a few metres off the shore and we saw turtles, stingrays and some massive fish - as good as some of the dives we've done. Western Australia is really beautiful, with lots of nature and wildlife and the towns are really small which means lots of deserted beaches and turquoise coastlines........also plenty of kangaroos we saw almost 100 on one journey! From Coral bay to Broome it was an 18 hour bus ride which considering theres nothing to see on the roads except alot of red dirt and roadhouses in the middle of nowhere it went suprisingly quickly. We've spent the last 4 days here in Broome and finally its beach weather, in fact its boiling hot about 35 degrees. On the night of the full moon we watched the Staircase To The Moon, where the moon seems to rise out of the sea and reflects on the mud flats, creating the look of steps up to it. Everyone sits out on the beaches waiting for it and we were quite impressed having never seen the moon rise before (thought it was always in the sky!) Spent a day at Cable beach and watched a great sunset, also went to the worlds oldest outdoor cinema with deckchairs for seats! Its been great to chillout here after lots of travelling and we have decided to skip another long bus journey for a flight to our next stop - Darwin in the north, crocodile country!!!
