Katie & Chris World Tour 06/7/8!
We had the pleasure of Michael (Chris' Dad) and his partner Sue's company for the week. Having picked them up from the airport after a slight delay we made a bee line for our respective hotels in Verona. The main event was a night at the opera in the extremely impressive open air amphitheatre. After settling in we then realised that it may be a rather wet evening so Michael bought us very attractive umbrellas and rain macs. Thankfully just in time we were provided with respite and enjoyed the wonderful surroundings to the full. Carmen was spectacular with a huge cast including horses on stage.
After a little sight seeing and the obligatory calling from Juliette's balcony, we headed to Lake Garda and Malcesine for a very relaxing few days. Michael and Sue were in a lovely hotel with a pool and sun terrace we all took full advantage of. Also climbed Monte Baldo, went down and up a chair lift to enjoy the view the other side of the valley, and had a rather rocky walk back!
Enjoyed some lovely meals, Chris enjoyed the best windsurfing session ever, and I lying on my new pink lilo! Also popped over to Limone on the other side of the lake for some real lemon ice cream and some retail therapy. Also met Bill, Anna, James and Alex for lunch on their way back from Anna's parents which was very nice.
Feeling already totally spoiled and relaxed despite having done so much in the week already, we had one final port of call - Venice. We went to the famous and beautiful Londra Palace hotel on the Grand Canal and watched the world go by.
Saw an amazing tiny opera concert with two very talented singers and performers which I will never forget. Popped over to Murano and Michael and Sue just about managed to walk away without spending anything!
Had a very expensive coffee and dessert at Cafe Florian listening to the orchestra play. Feeling totally full and having enjoyed every minute of the week, we went for a run along the canal and round the park before checking out and getting the water taxi back to the van. Took Michael and Sue back to the airport with the 5 pairs of shoes Michael had bought - and they say women love shoes!
