Our last week in Italy was a busy and varied one. I was definitely sad to leave it behind after such a rich experience, but I could see there was only so much more culture Chris could take and he was definitely getting itchy feet as the days counted down until we reached the surf spots again and met his friends for a few beers!
We did manage to find some windsurfing spots this week but there wasn't a great deal of wind. Spent a lovely two days at a camp site next to a long sandy beach near Porto Ercole, a lovely town that reminded us of Jersey.
We travelled further North again stopping for the evening in San Gimignano , a town described as a medieval manhattan. Impressive and beautiful typical Tuscan scenery you dream of, but way too many Americans!
We headed to Florence the next day and checked into a camp site just outside the city with a great panoramic terrace bar. We cycled in and managed to find a small curry house to enjoy before another massive ice-cream. Luckily the cycle back up the long hill to the camp site helped it all go down before bedtime!
The next day we cycled around the sights and Chris spent a good portion of the day reading the paper while I tried to take in some of the more cultural aspects of the city. It was so busy that I didn't see much more, but the buildings and the setting on the river were lovely in themselves.
Next stop was Pisa, the last big attraction on our Italian tour. It had been raining all the way and didn't let up so it was time to get our umbrella out and walk through the puddles. The tower is seriously leaning and crumbling in parts because of it. It is sadly, the only real draw that we could see to the town, and as such means every tourist is within earshot. We had a nice wander around but got so wet and didn't want to wait around to go up it. We headed off found an unexpectedly peaceful spot by the beach in Noli for the last couple of days. Chris got to windsurf and we had the last few Italian delicacies including a huge calzone and you've guessed it - one more gelati for the road!
