So I have decided to start a little travel blog, for two reasons really.

1.

On the 3rd Jan 2012, I got a phone call at my desk at work. It was my second day back at work after a lovely Christmas holiday, and new-year blues had already well and truly set in. I was actually due to start a new job in a few weeks, and my mobile rang from an unknown number. I presumed it was the new employers calling, so answered, and got greeted by a girl called Lizzie at STA Travel. "Oh great" I thought, "someone selling me a holiday I can't afford" *sulk*. But my bluesy negativities were wrong, and she then went on to tell me cheerfully "So you entered a competition last year on our Facebook page....and you've won". !!!!

So those that know me know I'm a bit of a loser-comper...but a relatively unsuccessful one at that. Until that day! It turns out I had won 2 x flights to Bangkok, a 14 day roaming tour down through Thailand and Malaysia, and then fly home from Singapore.

OHMAGAWD. (cue a lot of "OMG"'s and people at work starting to stare and say "What?" and "what's up with Kate?")

So I fly off on my travels (accompanied by my lucky brother James, who won the contest of my own of: who-is-the-most-deserving-person-to-get-the-other-ticket-seeing-as-my-boyf-can't-go?) on the 19th April, and being the digital-addict that I am, I endeavour to update this blog with my travel stories and photos (wi-fi permitting.) So please stay tuned!

I thought of the really awesome blog name "Katie Days Around the World" and am hoping that Lonely Planet will see me for the hilarious and generally awesome human lady that I am, and give me a job.

I go to America A LOT, as I have a lovely American, pint-sized boyfriend of five years, so really should start documenting the funny, weird and delicious things I encounter when I'm over there.
