We arrive at Suratthani at around 7.30am. We stumble off the train, waving to the awesome guard who made and unmade our beds, and crossed the street to a cafe which basically just serves Western breakfasts. Score. I have a massive pancake with syrup, and some bacon, with a cup of tea (heaven.) I also used the most disgusting toilet in Thailand thus far (not heaven.)
We eat up, and then it's time for MORE travelling. We get into a private air-conned minivan (yessss) and travel around four hours to Krabi (or Ao Nang...I'm still confused about that one.)
Krabi is our first beach place, and we are all (particularly the girls) VERY excited about swimming and sunbathing (or just sun-speckling for me.) Our hotel room has a sea view, and the beach is a 2 min walk. We drop off our bags and then decide what activity we want to do. James, the boys and Linda go off to do Kayaking through a mangrove forest (I'm far to lazy for that!) and me and Almarie head to the beach in Krabi.
The sun is BOILING that day. A scorchio 35 degrees with barely any breeze. I lay my towel under a tree, and poke my lily white legs into the sun. We lay around for 3 hours, popping in and out of the heavenly warm water, then drying in the sun. Half way through, we pop down to the beach bar and drink more watermelon and eat the best Garlic Shrimp I've ever tasted.
A chilled but very satisfying day, ending in drinks at a local bar, and getting absolutely sloshed on three Majitos. Lovely stuff.
