We left Queenstown today and drove seven hours to Hanmer Springs. The drive took up most of the day and was fairly uneventful.
When we arrived in Hanmer we had a s*** of a time trying to find accommodation. We didn't think the town would be so small and so packed so we didn't book ahead. When we first drove in every place we passed was marked with "no vacancy". We eventually made our way to an information centre where we managed to book the last room at a bed and breakfast.
We drove to the bnb which is called Mad Cow Manor and is about 10min drive from the town centre. Our room is very nice and large. The bed is a king size so we have to share but it's big enough to not be a problem.
After we settled our stuff into the bnb we went back into town to try and find some wifi (our bnb doesn't have wifi at all). After the hassle of finding accom in Hanmer we decided to book ahead for Nelson and Blenheim, our next two stops. We found some free wifi near the library so we managed to book some accom for the next two places. Removes a lot of stress.
We had some stew from an Irish pub for dinner then bought some bottles of wine to enjoy back in our room whilst wearing our fluffy dressing gowns.
