Hi everyone!!
sorry we're so rubish at updating this thing!!! I'm in australia now but still haven't written about the south island of new zealand- oops! Well it was fab anyway!! We preffered the North island though. Most people don't agree with us but we met some really nice people in the north island and everyone seemed a bit grumpy in the South(maybe it was the cold weather)! But it was still beautiful! Milford sound was stunning and climbing the Franz josef glazier was coooool(literally)! We sold our van when we got to Christchurch but didn't get anywhere near what we paid for it! We paid 3000 and got 900! so we decided to go and put it all on blackjack in the casino! Yay!! We came out with 2500! Waheey!!
We've been in Oz for just over 2 months now, and again it's great!! We started off in Cairns and bought a van to travel about in. Now we're poor we have to live like proper backpackers and not stay in campsites, have cold showers by the beach and eat lots of rice! Oh well its all good fun(exept the cold showers)!
From cairns we went up to Port Douglas which was really nice! We got there for their annual festival so we stayed there for 10 days! We went scuba diving from there but were a bit dissapointed because the reef just looked really washed out! So when we got back to Cairns we decided to go on a liveaboard dive trip which takes you right out to all the best bits of the great barrier reef. Oh my god it was soooooo amazing!! On one of the dives they did a shark feed! aghhh! We all went down under the water and sat around on this patch of dead coral while we were doing this all the sharks had started to circle, they knew what was coming! Then they lowered this bin full of tuna heads down and then the dive director then goes over and takes the lid off! The tuna heads(which are attached to a chain) then shoot up and the sharks go into this mad feeding frenzy! It was unbeleivable being so close to it! At one point this really big shark swam round us really close and looked at us all! I wasn't scared-much!!! The other dives were brilliant too. we saw huge potatoe cod, 3 massive manta rays (about 5m across) and the coral was amazing!!
After that we decided to drive out to Ayers rock or Uluru as its now called. We thought rather than just driving down the East coast it'd be good to get a feel for driving in the outback. It was nothing like I expected, it was all green with grass and plant life! I thought it was going to be a baron desert! We saw loads of kangaroos but most of them were squashed at the side of the road! thay like to play chicken with the big trucks when the sun goes down! Poor skippy! It's not so bad though 'cause you get to see all the huge eagles pecking at their eyeballs! it beats playing eyespy! Uluru was beautiful the way it changed colour with the sun! We went there for sunrise on the first day and it was good but sooooo cold! i preffered the sunset! It seemed to change colour quicker with the sunset too! Whilst we were there we went to see the Olgers and Kings canyon too which were both amazing. I liked Kings Canyon the best out of all 3 things! It was scarey standing on the edge of this huge canyon! There was a big tour group on the other side so I decided it would be funny if we mooned them, so we bent over dropped them and smacked our bare bottoms! It certainly put some colour in our cheeks!!
We've just got back from Fraser island. This is the biggest sand island in the world. It was good fun. We went with a group of 11 people on a self drive tour. The island was beautiful, the sand was so white and so fine it squeekes when you walk on it. We went to lake Mckensie on our first day and I couldn't get over how clear the water was it was like glass! The next day we went to indian head which is a lookout point and we saw dolphins swimming down below, whales swimming about and stingrays! We didn't see any tiger sharks which would have been cool! Oh well!
We're heading to Brisbane tomorrow to meet up with some friends we've met on the way! We're both excited 'cause we've been promised a roast dinner! Yay!
Alright then bye for now!!!xxxxx
