Today was the day of many hikes and i loved it! We stopped in at the visitor's centre for maps, and the grocery store for some food. First hike was the 4km Stanleyville hike near Lomond. It was advertised as a hike to an abandoned village, but much to our dismay there were no structures of any sort left. It was still a decently challenging hike (uphill both ways) and there was a cool rock beach half way through. From there we saw a couple Minke whales, which we were thrilled about and later told we were very lucky to see them this late in the season!
From there we went to the Discovery Centre and learned about the park, it's wildlife and the science behind everything we've been seeing. Definitely a great stop in Woody Point, the view is also pretty great! Onto Woody Point to locate lunch of some sort. We stopped at a cute little place that made the most wonderful sandwiches to order! Homemade bread makes everything taste better.
After lunch was the relatively easy Tablelands hike. It blew our minds how different the landscapes are within 20 minutes in Gros Morne. Just beautiful. The parking lot and hike were packed at the beginning. But we lucked into a walking speed that had us alone for the majority of the 4km trail. It was very hot, but the wind gusts kept us much cooler which was wonderful!
Next stop was way back over past Rocky Harbour to the Coastal Trail. Due to construction and signage we had some trouble finding it. But after a few different tries we made it to the trail. It was very wet in some spots and very narrow in others, but it was a great spot to view the water, taste the salt and be amazed by another rocky beach, this time however, it was boulders not pebbles. Very cool 6km trail!
Last hike of the day was a 2km loop of Berry Head Pond. This was a neat trail as a third to half of it is made to be wheelchair accessible! It was a lovely little pond with some spectacular views. And at the end we got to watch 2 otters frolic and eat!
Off to Fisherman's Landing Restaurant for a hearty lasagna dinner, then back to our room for some Netflix and bed. It was a lovely day, but 20.5km of walking and 30 000 steps later, we were wiped!
