My last week in Ghana and i am having completely mixed feelings! i am excited fo the week of travel ahead of me and very sad to be leaving my babies and my host family! but also very excited to get home to my creature comforts and some variety in what im eating, and of course everyone that i miss! This is my last blog entry from mampong as i leave for accra tonight and possibly my last entry in Ghana as i fly out a week today!!
This week has not been my most interesting week and therefore, i don't have to much to write. I spent most of the week lying in bed suffering from Malaria which sucked!! clearly the anti-malarials i am taking are not all that effective as i have been taking them religiously! I am healthy now- with an all clear from the doctor regarding my blood work! So thank you to everyone for their concern but i really am fine now.
Befor coming down with malaria i did however have time to visit the mampong market at which i am now a regular and where you really can but anything from flip flops to peppers, to pestle and mortars to yards apon yards of brightly colored and exotically patterned fabric of which i have bought lots. i plan to make cushion covers when i get home although having bought all the fabric i realise i cannot sew and have no idea how to make cushions- so anyone with any expertise in this area im home next week and will be expecting your call!
For easter i attended church which was actually a first for me as my easters at home usually consist of eating a lot of chocolate! Church in Africa is a completely different experience from anywhere else anyway! firstly on easter sunday everyone dresses in white- because white is the colour Ghanaians where after birth The ceremony consisted of a lot of talking in Twi and beautiful gospel song followed by everyone dancing up to the front in their rows and giving their donations. the dancing was very energetic and constisted of a lot of hip movement and waving of hankerchiefs. it was very cool to watch, although like most services i have experienced in ghana far too long. The strangest thing was that many people brough fruit and vegetables to donate, one woman carrying what appeared to be half a plantain tree on her head. the woman behind me even brought loo roll. at first i thoughj they had brought their possesions to be blessed but they appeared to leave them there so i guess they were donations. it was a great experience, but not one i am eager to repeat.
in my final week i am off to the coast for a week of exploring the old colonial forts, canopy walks in the national parks and general relaxation on the beach! i think it is well deserved after 4 weeks of teaching and another 4 of diaper changing. I has so far been a fantastic trip and in answer to everyones questions yes i will deffinately come back to ghana, although i cant say when as there are a lot of other countries for me to discover!
i promise to put up pictures when i get home so keep checking for my final blogs and pictures! thanks again to everyone whos keeping in touch its really making me smile.xxx
