Today I went for a run down to the beach - a la baywatch style! The ocean here smells different to home...still salty just different. After brekky Stephen, Jo and I took a Starline bus tour to Hollywood and Beverly Hills. Hollywood Boulevard is like Surfers writ large - as tacky, touristy and grubby as, but fascinating nonetheless from an "as seen on tv" perspective. We had lunch at the Hard Rock (Jim Morrison's hand written lyrics of a draft of The Doors LA Woman, Jimi Hendrix purple felt hat and Iggy Pops leather jacket - cool) and then went to Madame Toussards wax museum. What struck us is that these life size models of the stars mean they are mostly midgets...with the exception of maybe Clint Eastwood, John Wayne and Pierce Brosnan! Weird and a tad bit freaky...very life like and only Mel Gibson didn't really look like himself. Graumans Chinese theatre with the hand and foot prints of the midgets...I mean stars was pretty cool and driving through West Hollywood and Beverly Hills was interesting too. In Beverley Hills each street is lined with rows of trees of a different "theme" and the uber rich don't like to put their garbage out front as it spoils the street scape - so each street has a lane-way behind for the garbo's. Rodeo Drive gives new meaning to rich w***ers - and you notice that the more cashed up a suburb the cleaner it is. We finished the tour back at Santa Monica with the pier being the last "attraction" before our stop near home. We will spend some time exploring it and Venice beach on Saturday I believe. Well sterling myself for outlet shopping tomorrow - look out luggage limit here we come!
