Farewell to Fernie….
Our time in Fernie has come to an end. We've enjoyed our stay on Elkview Drive with the house full of animals. We will miss little Wicket (the Star Wars dog), Cayoosh (Fat boy) and Tat Cat. But most of all Tat Cat; a skinny gray cat who's taken to Tim and who I refer to as Mistress.
We'll miss Big Bang Bagels, Picnic, the Northern and the Overwaitea. We'll miss Earl the 78 year old bus driver. And the bus that's older than both of us that drove us to the mountain each day. We'll miss the friendly attitude of Fernie-ites; the smile and general chit-chat when you buy something from a store and the free ride into town from generous locals.
We'll miss the mountain. I'll miss Dancer, North Ridge, the top of Falling Star on snowy days, Silver Lining (for the lack of crowds) and Highline. Tim'll miss North Ridge, Concussion, and anything in Cedar Bowl after snowfall.
We'll miss the chit-chat with lifties on a quiet Wednesday; the banter with ski school instructors and the seriously limited selection on the panty tree.
I'd like to thank our friends that came to visit. We had a ball with Shilo in January and a blast with Steve this week.
Fernie is a great place to live. A friendly, caring community, a seriously good ski hill and plenty of great places to eat and drink. What more could you want from a winter season in Canada? It will be sadly missed.
