Sunday was our day to chill ...didn't really do that. Got up early and headed straight for the sky train. Our closest stop was Chong Nonsi which was literally 2 minutes from the hotel.
Bought a day pass (120tbh/£2.50) and we took advantage of it. First of all went to MBK which is near the national stadium...it's a huge shopping mall (tokyu mall) and ridiculous indoor Market... 7 floors of everything. Mooched around for a few hours both bought some bits and pieces. Ventured on to the 5th floor which is food and ate at a local restaurant. I had Thai green curry, rice & fish cake and it was delicious and so cheap!!
After that headed back on the skytrain to Mo Chit and the Chatuchak Market. After the cool air conditioning of MBK this was overwhelming to say the least there were 1000's of people, cars, scooters & tuktuks. Beggars, tourists, police and locals. We didn't last long here thou I did manage to make a couple of purchases.
Headed back to the hotel and took a dip in the pool and chilled on the roof for an hour of so then took the mother of all baths in our amazing tub. Bubbles everywhere!!
After a brief nap got back on the skytrain to Sala Daeng and checked out the Patpong night Market. This was an odd mix of sex toys, fake watches, printed t-shirts & souvenirs. Highly enjoyable but after a few hours does start to feel a bit samey.
What we were offered here in spades thou were sex shows. A lot of sex shows. We resisted the pingpong shows and opted for dinner instead.
At dinner we learnt 2 things: 1.don't eat the little clump of balls on a twig, they are peppercorns! 2.Thai cocktails are way different to ours. Deciding to treat ourselves we had a pitcher of long island ice tea (the most expensive thing we'd bought in Asia so for 500tbh/£10 for 1 litre!). I am a big fan of the alcoholic ice tea...this however was mind-blowing; 1stly it had no coke in it - which back home is the mixer, 2ndly it was basically a litre of alcohol on ice. It took us the best part of 2 hours to plough through it and as soon as I stood up it hit the brain. Now the morning after I have a vile headache and a vow to stick with beer for the next 2 months I know where I am with that haha.
Today (Monday) is our last day at the heritage hotel...which I'm sad about as the beds are comfy and the bathroom is lovely. Leaving here at 1pm to check in to the Bangkok centre and meet our tour group which is exciting!
Am feeling a bit nervous as we've been able to go at our own pace since Thursday but from tonight it's going to be busy - 4 countries, 18 stops all in 30 days...I've also yet to sleep an entire night and we are going from nice 4* hotel to 2* hotels/hostels but it's all part of the experience
some weird stuff I've tried:
Seaweed flavoured walkers (yum)
Hot fried chicken potato sticks (yum)
Wasabi peas (too spicy)
Pea sticks (just weird)
Spicy seaweed sheets (okay but odd)
Fried rice breakfast (confusing but ok)
