It's sunday evening(well it was when I started writing this!) here in siknouhville Cambodia it's our last night in the ochheuteal bungalows...they've treated us well. Quite basic, cool water showers, aircon faulty, a few sneaky Beatles have creeped in but other wise lovely. 2 minutes from a White sandy beach, awesome little bar and a really cool atmosphere. It's been a change fop pace after the drama of the killing fields & hecticness of phnom penh.
1st day lucy & i hit the beach for another tasty rice dinner, the 1st thing that strikes you is all the kids trying to sell you sunglasses, bracelets, fruit or women offering mani/pedicures saying no is exhausting as they are constant for the 1 st hour but once that dies down there is the lovely warm ocean which we took a dip in and the array of bars offering all kinds meat/fish/veggies BBQ-Ed, fried or curried. Certainly weren't short of places to eat and drink.
Also I did get a pedicure which was lovely and some little girl came over and started stroking my shoulder telling me how beautiful my White skin is and that she wants it. She made me a friendship bracelet which is quite pretty :-)
1 st evening the group went to a big bar for a BBQ I tried barracuda which is a lovely White fish I now lurrrve also ate prawns that were BBQ-Ed whole (heads and tails) yummy :-) but I had 1 gin and tonic and it gave me the biggest headache...crazy measurea they pour out here. Have been feeling a bit coldy think it's a mixture of the mad hot heat, heavy down pours and aircon but it seems to be cleary up now.l
Today we got up early and had breakfast on the beach then Got on the most rickerty old wooden boat, no roof, low sides - very precarious, sailed for about 20mins and down came the rain, words will never be able to describe this experience. Crashing waves, tumbling raindrops, manic boat driver. How it didn't capsize or throw someone over I will never know but after 1 hour at sea (felt like a life time!) we got to the bamboo Islands where the sun was shining and it was lovely (not nice enough to snorkel thou as the water was murky :-() had another BBQ on the beach sunbathed (burnt) and went on a jungle walk to the other side of the islands. The wave were awesome we were being human body boards crashing and diving through the waves. Just as we got back on the boat down poured the rain and about half back one of the engine failed (2nd time in one day I thought I was going to die!) we were rescued by another boat who lent our driver a part...seeing land was a huge relief, shell shocked we all made our way back to the bungalows.
After some serious freshening and moisturising we headed into town and ate at this lovely artisan bakery very tasty and I bought a beautiful bracelet from rajana a really cool NGO shop rajana out in Cambodia Headed back to the bungalows and met the group for dinner. Another beautiful night sat on the beach. More rice and some highly exotic seafood and some funky guys doing poi and firestaff near us was cool.
Having an early night as we have a day of travelling tomorrow - am becoming a pro at packing my luggage the weight has gone down I think that's from using products.
Other then the tingly burn and the cold (weird mix!) I've not been poorly from the malaria tablets or affected by the food/water so far. Woophhhyhyyyyy
