Kate's Travels
Got picked up by the coach at 8am which felt pretty early but the sunshine helped a little! Our tour guide/driver is nicknamed Wales - i have no idea why - and he's a Kiwi Bill Bryson who looked a bit like Jack Black and was hilarious! he made the trip so funny. He had annecdotes, jokes, stories and information, he was really passionate about the area and the environment of the rainforest and the reef, it was so interesting to listen to him.
After unpacking a bit we went to a natural pool which was beautiful (see pics) and was home to some turtles, although we didnt see them, i think they were asleep! Then at 3.30pm me and jen went canopy surfing!! Was so much fun, the pics say it all but you get harnessed up and go on zip wires between little stations in the trees, theres about 6 stations and it lasts about an hour and a half and on the last one you go upside down which was fab!
That evening we went on a jungle night walk for 2 hours. Like Wales, our tourguide Ian was really passionate about the rainforest and the life in there, so although we didnt see many animals (the odd frog, spider and ghekko) it was fascinating to just listen to him and hear about how the rainforest works and its history. Its the oldest rainfrest on earth and is thought to be about 40million years old (i think!) so it was fab to walk along in it and be among plants that have been there for hunderds and hundreds of years.
Went for a few drinks at PK's, the local (and only) bar before an early ish night, ready for the reef tomorrow!!
