Hey everyone!
Sorry its been a while since our last blog post, we were too busy relaxing on the beaches :-)
After our last blog post in Phnom Penh, we hat one more day in the capital of Cambodia. We went as promised to the Russian Market, which is a huge maze of stalls selling tradtional products, touristy tack, and food :-) We ate in the food section and had some spring rolls, some noodles and kate had a manicure and pedicure for 5$ She was sat on a bench for an hour, next to this food area, and I saw a cockroach crawling around behind her :-) It was pretty dull for me, but they did a good job, and painted flowers on all kates fingers, which five days later are still perfect.
The next day we had an early bus to Sihanoukville on the south coast of cambodia. We arrived and checked into a hostel called Monkey Republic. It was really cool place, with about 30 blue bungalows out the book, and a 3 level bar and restaurant, good music and good food. We went to the beach in the afternoon as it was sunny with some small clouds. The beach was quite nice, but not amazing. Sandy but pretty narrow, and rather disgustingly there was a sewage pipe that drained into the sea, leaking all this horribly dark brown yellowy liquid! We went far away from there!
The next day we went to a different beach, further away called Otres beach. It is a much longer beach, with a lot less people, and no sewage! We relaxed there all day until it got too cloudy and walked back along the beaches back to our hostel.
In the evening, we went to a local restaurant that plays free films whilst you eat, and watched Hot Tub Time machine which is very funny :-)
The next day we had booked a island tour for 3 islands, but it riained really heavily! So wit was cancelled, but the weather cleared up by lunchtime, so we went back to the beach for the rest of the day, eating $1 phad thai and drinking lots of fruit shakes :-)
The day after that was glorious sun all day which we were not expecting, so we celebrated by geting burnt! :-( despite applying sun cream multiple times. In the afternoon I had finished my book and was a little bored, so spent an hour or two making a (quite) big sand castle complete with surrounding wall, moat, bridge, and towers! I dont think the locals understood, as I got a lot of funny looks, and one kid tried to destroy it!
We had a really good meal from our hostel, as our last in Cambodia, Kate had 2 massive pork and vegetable kebabs with loads of chips, and I had 3 pork steaks with loads of vegetables and chips!
We had an early morning the next day, getting up at 6 30 to catch out bus to Ho Chi Minh City in Vietnam. It was 13 hours long but the bus company gave us lots of free water, and free pastries for each meal :-) We crossed the border and stayed int the backpacker area, which is a maze of alleyways with lots of little hostels and found a small cheap one that is very clean and has free internet.
Today the weahter was terrible! Raining all day but we went out and visited the central market, which is our favourite one so far, and both spent too much! I bought some dodgy 'original' Abercrombie and Fitch shorts, with a button, but no butotn hole, so I had to cut one with a penkife! :-)
We had lunch at the market and visited the War Remnants museum in the afternoon, which is very interesting and has lots of photos from, and information about the Vietnam war and some of the atrocities that occured.
Anyhow, thats all we've done, and we'll try and give another blog post soon
