Hi!
This is our last stop before home and the last blog! Hope you have enjoyed reading them :)
We took a plane on Sunday morning from Hanoi, which was a pretty easy and painless flight. The airport was too expemsive to eat anything other than oreos though so we had an oreo breakfast and felt pretty sick!
By lunch time we were back in Bangkok and knew it woudl be easier the second time around! Our first few days of the trip in Bangkok were a shock- it was so busy, smelly and noisy... but by the second time around I think we were used to worse and enjoyed being here a lot more. We found a really nice hostel called roof view place, more expensive than other accomodation on our trip but gave a really decent breakfast and aircon (which we had only had once before- luxury!), plus its quite quiet and away from the busy Kho San Road!
On the Sunday we went straight to the Chatuchack weekend market, which is a really famous market and is HUGE!, it has a big square with an information centre giving out maps . I dont think we even saw it all and we were there almost for 5 hours! It had gifts, a really impressive bouutique and vintage clothing section, gardening and flowers, antiques and more. And there were food stalls everywhere!, but really fun ones- we got coconut icecream served in coconut shells, strawberry and oreo icecream made infront of us, homemade spicy sausages.. We didnt buy much to start with as it wasnt very cheap, but then as it got dark the stalls spilled onto the streets selling mostly clothes at rock bottom prices. Tom bought 1 thing, I bought a lot! We were too full from snacking to have dinner, and were looking forward to a early night after a lot of 5 and 6 am get ups!
The next day, we took it easy and relaxed. We wandered around Kho San road with all of its rails of clothes and fake IDs and CDs, drank fruit shakes and read books. In the afternoon we went to see Wat Pho, a temple complex famous for its 45m long gold lying down bhudda! It was pretty impressive. On the bhuddas feet which were also massive, was mother of pearl decorations. the other temples around it were smaller, but there were lots of sparkly mirrored decorations and gold bhuddas, it was a very extravagent wat! That evening we walked along the riverfront for a bit, then went to a nice resturant for dinner which was known for its ancient thai specialities, Tom had a ancient thai style fried rice with these funny dried shrimps. I had fishcakes which were quite strange!
Our last full day in Bangkok was fun :) It was realkly nice weather so we caught a tuk tuk to Lumphini park which is in the buisness district with lots of skyscrapers. For about an hour and a half we lay in the sun and read books/magazines from our hostel. We saw a massive lizard, i dont think im exaggerating when i say it was a metre long with its tail as well!, it looked like it had escape from the zoo! But the locals wernt fussed so it was probably normal. We walked around Silom which is a large busy shopping area close to the park and then caught a tuktuk pack to start packing for home! I went to have a manicure and pedicure as a treat, and then just as we left the heavens opened with monsoon rains!
We were in a bit of a rush as we had booked to do a private cooking class at Mai Kaidee's Vegetarian Cookery School, for our dinner :) It was such a fun class! We cooked 3 dishes each and shared them all- Issan, Green thai curry, Massaman curry, pumpkin hummous, fresh spring rolls with peanut sauce and Tom Kha soup. We wernt too sure about the cookery school being veggie with tofu and TVP instead of meat, but it was actually really tasty! The dishes were so deliciousand also much healthier than our other thai cookery school which did use a lot of oil! The cookery school has become pretty well known and now has a published book

So we were pretty full afterwards!, but went out in the evening for a few drinks as it was the last night of the trip! We had planned to go to a big skyscraper bar in Silom with amazing views of the city, however we looked on their website and decided they probably woudlnt let us in as it was smart casual and not shorts or flip flips- so we would be going in in our hiking trainers and Tom in jogging bottoms! We decided against the journey to be turned away :), and so found some nice places in the local area. Also (just) fitted in a final famous Bangkok pancake before heading back to the hostel.
Today we are going to pack and then head to MBK shopping centre reccomended by my cousin Sophie :), for a couple of hours. Then its a bus to the airport, and we fly at 8:15 pm, stopping in Barhain for 2 hours and then onto Heathrow! We arrive at 6 25 am your time, then bus to London and then Cheltenham in time for lunch!
Thanks for reading the blogs!
Kate and Tom :)
