This is toms first blog post although kate is casting a keen eye over everything i type :-)

Had a good few days in bangkok, which is a culture shock! Arreved in lots of heat at the airport, and took a bus to Khao San Road, which is very touristy :-) Lots of cheap stalls for clothes, food, tatttoos, massages, and cocktails!

Walked to our hostel which is basic, but has very clean rooms, and free internet, and is a short walk from Khao San Rd. After settling in, we went for a wander, and had our first street food of the trip, 2 portions of Phad Thai, where they fry it in fron of you, then you add your own chilli sauce, flakes, peanuts and sugar. Very tasty and cheap. We also shared a very good but very oily cinnamon pancake :-) Its no ordinary pankake its almost deep fried then the lady makes lots of cuts into it, puts the topping on and then squirts condensed milk on it!

Today we got up, had more phad thai for lunch, followed by banana and nutella pancake! Then walked to a temple that houses the most important religious artifact in Thailand, a 75cm tall buddha statue. They were charging 10 dollars entry however, so we walked back and did some cheaper sightseeing!

Also had our first and last thai massage in the evening! It was very painful, digging in all the pressure points :-) But it was funny.

We took a tuk tuk to a food market in the evening, as all we had been eating was phad thai and we were in search of something more adventurous! However after a long journey we eventually found that the night market unfortunatley didnt exist! After a taxi back, we had some more phad thai :)

Tomorrow, going on more sightseeing, hopefuuly to chinatown (find some different food!) then getting a night train to Chiang Mai.
